Off-Season Deal: Porter Jr. for Brown/Boucher/2026 Pacers 1st/2028 Raptors 1st

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Tue May 21, 2024 10:20 pm

Ill offer this idea for:
-Nuggets create greater financial flexibility beyond '24-25 season as they brining back Brown who could potentially start and Boucher provide frontcout depth
-Raptors add the SF/PF in mid 20s as they look to immediately try to rebound in EC and contend to better degree in '24-25 and beyond

To Denver
-Bruce Brown (1 year, $23 million - T.O. exercised)
-Chris Boucher (1 year, $10.8 million)
-2026 Pacers 1st round pick (1-4 protected)
-2028 Raptors 1st round pick

To Toronto
-Michael Porter Jr. (3 years, $115 million)

Why?
-The Nuggets create more financial flexibility if they want to re-sign KCP to a 3 year deal and look to extend Murray/Gordon. They could re-sign Brown long term next summer for smaller cap hit.

Murray/Jackson/Pickett
KCP/Braun/Watson
Brown/Strawther/Tyson
Gordon/Nnaji/Cancar
Jokic/Boucher/#28

-The Raptors add a SF/PF in mid 20s to round out starting core and build around Quickley/Barrett/MPJ/Barnes/Poeltl. Raps can let GTJ walk in free agency.

Quickley/FA?/Freeman-Liberty?
Barrett/Dick/#31?
MPJ/Agbaji/Nwora?
Barnes/Olynyk/McDaniels
Poeltl/#19/FA?

I think MPJ's contract is horrible but I don't think they can afford to let him go without significantly making their team worse. I think this is Denver pretty much punting on MPJ for picks because I doubt BB or Boucher are on the roster at the start of the next season

I wouldn't trade Brown and Boucher for MPJ straight up, let alone add picks. We are nowhere near contention enough to be spending future assets and/or going into the tax next year when scottie's extension kicks in. OP is a big swing and miss for Raptors

I wouldn't pay this for Toronto. I think they need to spend the year figuring out if they have a core in place before jumping in front of a contract like MPJ and paying assets for it.

Den would need better win now talent to pull the trigger, this is good value though so I think we could make it work with 3/4 teams here.

Directionally, this seems bizarre for the Toronto Raptors.

That aside, I am starting to think that Michael Porter Jr. is getting underrated because Minnesota locked him up. Against the Los Angeles Lakers, he averaged 23/8 on 55/49/77 splits. I probably wouldn't trade for him unless I had a high-movement offense with strong facilitators, but outside of a brutal series against a generational defensive squad, he is a tremendous shooting threat.

I would be hesitant to trade him given how he syngerizes with Nikola Jokić if I were Denver (especially given how restrictive the second apron is for getting an upgrade).

Yeah, directionally I would want to get paid as Toronto to take this risk, while needing to not get worse on the court as Denver. Fits seem real poor.

Not a chance the Raps do this. Remove the 2 picks and it can be debated.

But then in the debate, people remember Porters brother just got banned from NBA.

Nope a chance the Raps trade for MPJ. The want the Porter memories to disappear....this goes for Otto too!

I’d be more interested to see upgrades are available for MPJ plus picks rather than splitting MPJ into smaller pieces.
