Grant for MPJ

This could be so far off its not salvageable but giving it a shot. I kind of expect fans on both sides to hate the premise as I know Portland is gun-shy with injury prone players and no team wants to give up on a young guy.

Denver gets the more mature, consistent player to help them win now at the cost of ceiling potential, Portland takes a shot on a more talented young forward who has issues with health/consistency. Both teams kind of solidify their timelines, although I think that concept is overrated a bit.

Certainly Portland is adding to this but not sure what could work for both sides. We could include a few picks this year (probably not #7 but who knows) and players like Thybulle and Reath might be helpful to Denver if they have some contract filler they can send back. Any savings for Denver is probably a plus to help keep KCP, so while Portland shouldn't be a tax team lets assume they are OK taking on a bit of extra salary here and looking to save elsewhere.

Again, kind of expecting this idea to flop so no hard feelings. Grant just seems like a familiar face with a similar skillset who might be a tad more reliable and a able to help them a bit more when they need it and Portland needs to take some big swings even if there is some risk involved.

MPJ is very talented but those injuries impact his value.

No for me just based on contracts. Blazers need to reduce money, not gain money, and adding picks is just a no go. Maybe if Denver takes Simons with Grant and sends some additional value Portland’s way, but that is the only path I see that makes sense for Portland.

Fair enough. I don't think Grant has a ton of value (filler contract and a pick ish) but cant really get a read on MPJ's value so wasn't sure on the added value or not. I do think we end up paying a little extra for youth/upside but hope to limit that of course.

I like this for PDX and I am not even really a MPJ fan.

But he is younger and seems to be more of an off ball shooter than Grant - and I like that next to Scoot and Sharpe.

I would expand it to Grant + RWIII + 40 for MPJ + Zeke + #28

MPJ is so overrated. They gave him that insane deal based on a potential he should have reached by now but 40 million for 17 and 7 for 50 games a year is bonkers. Grant is better, locked in longer, and then you add in Thybulle plus a pick? I want picks for Grant.

I dont like it for the Blazers. Just trade Grant for the best pick you can get and sign a shooter if you need to. I dont think MPJ will play better on a worse team with a bigger role, I think he will look worse.

Just my opinion, but I like the idea of this. Portland can feature MPJ and look to flip him. Denver just gets a more useful player.

MPJ's injury history is a bit much for me. As for Jerami Grant that contract is going to look a lot better when all the bad contracts get signed this summer. There are a lot of teams trying to win right now and there is a lot of money out there. All while this free agent class looks just as bad as this draft.

jerami Grant is an empty stats players of terrible teams going nowhere. MPJ is way more impactful and has contributed on a finals team, just because he had bad series against one of the best perimter defenders in the league(mcdaniels) doesn't mean he isn't a good player. Jerami Grant had a few good playoff games against the lakers and has been overvalued since. Big pass for Denver, Grant is not a winning player.

I would do this trade in the heartbeat . Grant was great with Jokic in that bubble season. In the role of the wing defender and spot up shooter he's great. He would be a great improvement over MPJ even though he's older, he can still play effectively in that role.

Blazers get the youngest guy and best shooter + a valuable future pick. Denver is a better team next year

With MPJ I keep wondering how much he would've gotten instead of the 5/180M, if the Nuggets waited until his free agency. I mean he nearly fully missed his last year of his rookie contract, after a rough 9 game start.

Would anyone even offered him more than 25M per year? Especially considering that it was his 3rd back surgery at that point.

Denver already had Grant and offered him the same money as Detroit and role of Gordon. He declined. He wanted to play for black GM, black coach and for team where he would be 1st option. MPJ is better shooter, scorer, defender and rebounder. The fact is while MPJ is one of the best sf rebounders Grant is one of the worst. It includes boxing-out. MPJ improved as defender 1on1 and as help defender. Grant had higlight blocks. That is it.

So, I really don't see it for Denver
