UTA/MIN/BKN

Post#1 » by AingesBurner » Mon May 27, 2024 3:54 am

UTA out: Sexton and Collins
UTA in: Simmons and 2 PHX 1sts

MIN out: Towns
MIN in: Sexton and Collins

BKN out: Simmons and 2 PHX 1sts
BKN in: Towns

Why for UTA: eat a terrible contract while sending out 2 starters for 2 PHX 1sts

Why for MIN: They get depth pieces for Towns

Why for BKN: Get another all-star next to Bridges

As bad as Towns has been this series this does nothing for the Wolves, non starter imo.

1) Sexton is worth one PHX 1st and Collins is negative value
2) Minny can do alot better than this if they want depth from trading towns

I don't think Utah is owed any picks here. If anything, we owe some value in a Collins + Sexton for Simmons swap.

I don’t think this is even positive value for Wolves. Borderline should be locked.

Nope. Sorry but we are taking on the worst contract in the league.

Simmons is an expiring, definitely not the worst contract in the league.

Wolves are getting hosed here. They need a lot of value coming to them.

Thought he still had a few years left so split the picks. Utah gets one and so does Minny. These playoffs have proven that Minny needs a guard like Sexton and Collins can do what KAT does.

Yeah there’s no reason for Utah to be in this deal at all, and somehow walking with two ultra premium draft picks by jettisoning bad money in Collins and a good shooting guard with smaller point guard size in Sexton, this is a wild one.

Sexton is on a good contract the next 2 years and Min could use probably his scoring punch from the backcourt. John Collins does not fit at all. It's been proven in both ATL and Utah that Collins cannot play next to Kessler type bigs and Gobert is the king of that archetype. I still think Collins can be a useful player next to the right big man who can regularly hit a shot outside 10' but unfortunately he's also overpaid the next 2 seasons. If Min moves KAT they would likely want some sort of tax relief in addition to other low cost assets.

Sexton+Hendricks would be a better fit for Min but still don't think that's good enough haul although the tax savings would be massive for them. Also doubt Ainge is trading a young guy who he just picked in the lottery a year ago in order to acquire more picks although those PHX picks could be premium.

Brooklyn has also come out recently to suggest they they could likely go into rebuilding mode the next few years. If that's the case I don't see them trying to acquire KAT.

If Min loses to Dallas I would think Dejounte+ for KAT could work for those teams but I'm too lazy to start that thread

The Nets have been preaching patience and sustainability, not rebuilding. Ultimately, I believe that to mean they want to reset the repeater tax and have a ton of '25 cap space.

Trading Simmons + picks now depletes the pick power for a future deal and kills '25 cap space. I only think they make an all-in move this year for a truly elite star. Otherwise, they wait until '25 FA. Even if they don't land stars in '25, but can land very good starting caliber players for free (free agency), they're better positioned to follow that up with a trade.

Utah should be cut out completely.

Brooklyn sends DFS, Cam Johnson and 2 1sts directly to Minnesota if they want Towns.

But I dont know if they actually want Towns at this point.

I like CamJ+DFS for Minnesota, but the Nets aren't including picks, certainly not the premium variety, if they're taking back KAT's contract. KAT kills a lot of '25 cap space, and puts the Nets over the tax next season, keeping them in the repeater bracket. The Nets might then have to waive and stretch Simmons to get out of the repeater tax. If they're jumping through all of those hoops, they'll want to retain their picks for future trade, because Bridges+KAT+Claxton is not good enough. Either KAT has to be so cheap to acquire, the Nets can't refuse, or he can be an extra piece added after '25 FA.

I like KAT and I think he'd be a good fit next to a mobile defensive big like Claxton, but his contract is burdensome and makes a 2nd move extremely difficult.
