Jarrett Allen to Memphis

Jarrett Allen to Memphis for Marcus Smart and the 9th pick. The Grizzlies get an excellent 5 to complete their starting lineup. The Cavs get a rotational guard with some toughness and the 9th pick. The Cavs could add the 9th pick with some salaries for another rotation player or they could stay put and draft someone like Knecht or Castle.

It's a bit premature for the Grizz to trade Smart since they haven't had much of a chance to play him next to Ja and they gave up alot for him just last year. This is too good for the Cavs. Maybe send the #20 to Memphis?

Seems to me Cavs really need to deal Allen for a bigger wing though.

I'm not high on Smart, so I'd shop elsewhere, but I wouldn't break up a team whose starting 5 played less than 30 games together either so YMMV.

I proposed this a few weeks ago. Still like the basis of it. Maybe add a 20 for 39. I think if Clev moves Garland for someone like Ingram getting Smart as a POA defender and connecting piece would make a lot of sense. Or maybe Smart/9/Aldama for Allen/20 to give Clev another PF option.

I don't know if they would do it in real life, but on paper it looks great, although I think the Cavs should send the 20th...

I don't see the Cavs doing this trade without moving one if not multiple guards first, and since that is unlikely to happen until Mitchell extends, this is going to need future draft assets rather than this year's.

If we do go after Jarrett I think the deal will be Smart/Santi/#9 for Allen/#20.
That allows us to then package #20/Konchar/Ziaire for Dorian Finney Smith.

Cavs definitely not adding a 1st to move Allen let alone for Marcus Smart

The deal is an overpay from the Grizz perspective but to get it done it’s fair. That #9 pick with salary could net them another high end starter in Kuzma. Allen though a great fit for the Grizz is not the ideal fit his games has limitations thus the reason the Cavs will have to trade him. Santi’s game ans a stretch 4 compliments Mobley’s game pretty well. Also Smart and Mitchell backcourt will function much better than Mitchell and Garland.
Cavs starting unit of Mitchell/Smart/Ingram/Kuzma/Mobley is a much better fit than the one currently constructed.
If you still feel this not a great offer please list a better one.

It would function better defensively, but so would pairing Mitchell with Okoro or Strus. It would represent a huge step back offensively over all three of Garland, Strus, and yes, even Okoro. The Cavs should not do this trade regardless of what picks are involved.

So my question is if the Cavs are trading Jarrett what is the return they looking to get?

I doubt we move Smart. The offer should be around Kennard, Ziare/LaRavia, Konchar, #9, future 1st.

A LeVert for Smart swap is about as far as I would go here. Even then, LeVert provides more offense, while still being a capable defender.

Assuming they're trading him, I assume they want a good wing back. Failing that, solid backup bigs and draft capital which the could use in another deal.
