Cle / Utah -- is this closer?

Cleveland gets: Lauri Markkanen
Utah gets: Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen
Why?
Cleveland gets a good fit next to Mobley.
Utah balances their roster in order to compete.
Markkanen signs a max as part of the trade.

No. This is awful for the Cavs. We have no SF and no way of getting one. We'd have no backup center and no way of getting one. Lauri still isn't extended. Ainge would flip Allen to N.O. or OKC for a good return. It's time to let Lauri go. He's gone.

No. This is awful for the Jazz. Allen is nice, but Garland isn't a worthy target. Utah should aim higher than this.

No way Ainge would accept this offer. Cavs need to pawn their wares somewhere else.
Jazz don't really need either player as they already have Kessler at the 5 and Keyonte/ Sexton as small scoring guards, all signed to reasonable deals.

This is more value than Lauri is worth, but wrong directionally for Utah. I think it gets balanced by adding Kessler and maybe Clarkson? I have:
Lauri > Garland
Clarkson + Kessler < Allen

I don’t think Lauri is worth the max that he is most likely going to get, so I would pass on him.
let Utah pay him 60mil per season

Easy no for Cleveland

The Jazz aren't going to want to give up the closest thing they have to a franchise player for a young guard who doesn't really rove the needle and really have no use for. They could get a lot more value than this. Jazz say no.

I think this makes sense for CLE, but UTAH would have to add a little sweetener (protected pick or something), and i think they would.
Would have to get Lauri locked in to an extension first. He liked his time in CLE, but this deal sends out the guys he enjoyed playing with.

That puts a deal at next summer at the earliest then. He's not R+E eligible until the end of August and afterwards not trade eligible for six months, past the February deadline.

Ainge has basically already stated Lauri isn't getting traded unless some team offers up 4-5 FRP's.
These 2 teams are not a good trade match for Lauri since the Jazz already own the Cavs' future picks.

No from Utah. If you can flip Garland for 3 1st and Allen for 2 1sts, then they can talk.

Jazz wouldn't seriously discuss this. Garland is better than he played this year, but the Jazz likely aren't interested in a small guard. Allen isn't the type of 5 that the Jazz would aim for when they have Kessler. Plus JA's injury history adds risk. Also, Jazz probably aren't motivated to help keep Donovan Mitchell in Cleveland.

With these asking prices, Utah fans should hope to keep Lauri?
And there’s no problem with that. Just need to have him sit 40-50 games so you can tank. No need to finish with the 8th-10th worst record in league, while passing on value for Lauri..
With Utah’s pick base and prospects they have, one tank season should be enough as long as they don’t miss..

This isn't about value it's just a bad directional trade for the Jazz. The Jazz would want players on a rookie scale and or picks that get us lottery talent.

I have the combined Cleveland players being worth more than Lauri and Utah takes the package and flips them on their own. Just as Portland did with Jrue.
But some people have Garland as neutral value. Maybe I’m off there, guess we will see this summer?

But some people ignore that Lauri will be on a 40 million dollar a year contract in 12 months even if he is renegotiated.
I really don't know the value of Garland. Allen is valuable but his market is fewer teams then we could trade Lauri to. There are less 3's and 4's like Markkenan then 5's and 1's making him more positionally valuable and splitting it might not get us back anything better. Now if there is an established 3-way or 4-way trade on the table it would have more value to the Jazz who want assets now in order to get a high pick in the 25' draft.

Yeah, I can’t see Cleveland ever considering the base.. But for me - NOP pays more to bookmark their starters with Allen and Garland than to add Lauri and figure out what to do with the rest.
But think Allen will have a nice market, strong starter and he’s on a bargain contract that extends a year. Nice candidate for renegotiate and extend similar to Turner really.
Garland.. there’s already teams whispered about him. I think he’ll return closer to what Cleveland fans feel he will versus what some others say.
