Anyone Want Jarred Vanderbilt?

Post#1 » by kds92 » Thu May 30, 2024 2:16 am

Seems like the Lakers might be open to moving him. Assuming he's not included in a bigger deal, what would a team be willing to pay for him? Not really sure what his value is.

Strengths: Solid/versatile perimeter defender, good size, young, athletic, hustle guy
Weaknesses: Injured most of last year, poor shooter, limited offensive game, not a good screen navigator

He recently signed a 4yr / $48 million extension (about 7.5% of the salary cap).

Part of his weakness is, he is not worth his contract.

Would you take a second round pick?

Mavs should be trying to turn Maxi or THJ into Vanderbilt this offseason

I disagree. I think he is neutral value at his contract.

Is his contract above next season's MLE?

No, it's about $2.25 million below the MLE for next year

The injury history is the most disconcerting thing from my perspective. Garland, Strus, Mobley, and Okoro were the only Cavs players, out of our top 8, who didn't miss playoff games this season.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

He's below MLE money as *near elite defender. If he had a shot, he'd be making Jaden MCDaniels money. His contract is not an issue at all. Health, yes. Said lack of shot, yes. But a guy who can guard 3 positions very well and is below 25 (I believe), not a bad contact.

Sounds like lakers could use a defender like that

What does LAL want? An overpaid player at a different position? Salary relief? A worse contract and assets to flip as part of a bigger deal?

The 1980s want him. I'm not sure how playable he is in the modern day, particularly in the playoffs.

Yeah. “Open the MLE for DJJ” threads. I had one for JV. But thought he was mostly untouchable in a smaller trade.

Whatever borderline star LAL ends up with, just send JV to Dallas and let Dallas send THJ+2-3 seconds to the third team. Could be Trae or Garland or Ingram or…

If LAL just wants to move on from him (which I can’t see) then you could build one without the third team using some team with cap space.

Agree with he is paid for what he does.

so under the new CBA he can be traded into the MLE and salary doesn't have to be matched.

THJ maybe. Kleber definitely not. I'm open to moving Maxi but not for a guy less playable than Maxi, what's the point of that exactly?

He was great in 2022 next to a floor-spacing big man.

Plenty of cap room in Detroit, but we can't afford to bring in more non-shooters.

I like Vanderbilt and was a little disappointed to see him moved but this seems like a pretty hard sell on what he actually is. He's a fine player on a fair contract but the fit on offense needs to be pretty specific since he operates best out of the dunker spot as a PF.
