You are the Nets GM you are doing this offseason..

No picks in this Draft, and not controlling your own next year either. With Claxton being a Free Agent this summer, the most immediate decision to make... what are you doing this offseason?

1) Resign Claxton

2a) Attempt to acquire Mitchell or Trae Young via trade

2b) Acquire your own picks back from Houston and tear it down.

Staying the course and chasing the play-in with this roster would be a mistake.

Looking for a new job.
Poorly built out of desperation. This team needs to be blown up for as many future picks as possible.
Move Johnson, move Bridges - call Houston and see what they will give for Bridges. Options include Eason, Whitmore, Green and picks.
Rebuilding with the picks received is the best option.

Re-signing Claxton seems like the only no-brainer move. Otherwise, I'm not sure the "they can't tear the roster down cuz they don't own their pick" mind-set is reason enough to trot out a treadmill team for the next 2-3 years. I'd seriously be gauging the value of everyone, and even Bridges if some team is willing to massively overpay for him. He's clearly not a #1 option and may not even be a legit #2 for a team with championship aspirations.

- Re-sign Claxton
- Trade Cam Johnson and/or Dorian Finney-Smith to try and snag a mid-late 1st in this draft
- Let the Simmons contract expire

The rest of the guys are either prospects you should keep for now (Clowney, Sharpe, Whitehead) or dudes who don't have much trade value anyways (Schroeder, Bates-Diop). Maybe re-sign Dennis Smith to a 1-2 year with a team option type deal.

Picks 9, 12 and 13 should be very available in this draft for players of Cam Johnson and DFS’ ilk.

Mitchell will be target number one, but if he extends in Cleveland they’re going to pivot. Wouldn’t be stunned to see them target Garland somehow at that point.

Trae would also be an option if Atlanta decided to move on.

Then of course they’ll probably listen to offers on Mikal if all else fails.

Other than that, it could be be smaller under the radar moves and keep it status quo.

Maybe try and trade one of the later Phoenix picks for their swap option back in ‘25.

Claxton will probably be retained regardless as long as he obliges. Figuring a $100 mill 4-5 year deal.

These are the only options. What else can you do?

The tricky part is the timing. They may need to decide to tear it down before they find out if Trae or Mitchell are really available. It would be nice for them to get into the top of this draft, if possible.

Resigning Claxton is the biggest priority for the Nets.

Getting a superstar now would be nice but of if the Nets wait for Simmons to expire they get to buy one in free agency instead of trading away anything of future value.

Tanking without getting back the pick swap next year would give the Rockets something for nothing so they won't tear things down unless that pick swap comes back or if the Houston players have a tragic plane crash.

Using Bridges as part of a deal to get a better player could be a possibility but trading him for picks makes no sense unless incentivized by Houston.

DFS has a player option next year and is too old to fit the Nets timeline. Trading him by the deadline would be a good idea.

Cam Johnson for picks and either an expiring contract or as part of a trade for a superstar could be interesting.

The Nets should either look for disgruntled players or draft picks they can obtain to get younger and better.

What about this -

Giddey, Dieng, Kenrich, 12 for DFS, Cam

I think that leaves OKC room to sign iHart as well.

BRK takes a rebuild package.

OKC sees their 'big 3' as good enough and of needing enough usage that they opt to get some elite role players rather than target another big fish.

G - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander / Cason Wallace / Vet Min
F - Lou Dort / Isaiah Joe / Aaron Wiggins
F - Jalen Williams / Aaron Wiggins / Dorian Finney-Smith
F - Dorian Finney-Smith / Cam Johnson / Vet Min
C - Chet Holmgren / Isaiah Hardenstein / Jaylin Williams

I have this as a pretty big overpay by OKC. I have 12>DFS + Cam, but im lower on DFS value than most. Even still, i cant imagine that package being worth more and, if it is, the difference isnt Giddey, who may not be the greatest fit on that OKC roster but he's still a very good young player.

As a Nets fan I rather just tear it down. I don't like "star" options via trade, whether it's Trae or Mitchell. Just rebuild, get assets and acquire good team role players like Claxton etc.. so when a star does become available that player will come to a team that's built for him. Same thing we did pre Kyrie/KD days. Marks did it once, I'm betting he can do it again

It’s similar to Utah, or any other team straddling. You just have to pick something.

Trade Bridges for the best assets possible. Trade Bridges for your picks back and tank.

Or trade a couple picks for “DJM” and go for the play-in while keeping the ability to trade or sign Spida.

I’d try to get the picks back and start tanking... I don’t see a realistic ending where Brooklyn makes a real contender. Even if it works out perfectly and you end up Murray and Mitchell, without losing Claxton and Bridges.. eh.

I guess you trade at least one of DFS and Johnson in preparation for either road?

Brooklyn likely has the OKC pick next year, not Houston’s..

Ya I agree but was having trouble finding a pick that works.

Replace 12 w/ lower of OKC/MIA 25 FRP and add some SRPs?

I hav Giddey as worth more than those 2 as well. If OKC is convinced Giddey has to go AND theyre willing to take a haircut on value, then sure.

I dont think OKC has a real need for Cam Johnson at his price tag as they have strong shooters like Joe and Wiggins who are cheap, so if they wanted DFS, they could probably make a simpler trade for him.

I like Lauri for Nets..

Simmons, Mikal, CamJ, Lauri, Claxton

Just go big like this and see what happens.

Nets can easily keep Lauri and Mikal while adding a max salary FA in 2025 offseason.

Ok. I'm probably going to be on an island here by myself, but I want to give Jordi a decent building block to see what he can do with much of this roster. The Nets are in a tough spot, but perhaps they need to suck it up, build some value on some guys and play through it.
They still need to give time to the young players too.

Sign Claxton.
Sign Walker to 3 year extension using some of MLE
Sign Kris Dunn to 3 year deal using some of MLE

What they need is a PG and I am going to the Pacers and offering Cam Thomas/Whitehead for Nembhard.
Purchase the Kings' 2nd round pick (you know they're going to sell it) and select Nikola Djurisic with #45. He has a lot of potential as a long playmaker at the guard position.

Nembhard/Bridges/DFS/Johnson/Claxton
Dunn/Walker/Simmons/Clowney/Sharpe
Schroeder/Nikola Djurisic/Bates-Diop/Wilson/Vet Min

Use Simmons/Schroeder/DFS expiring contracts in a deal at the deadline to upgrade a position.

Re-sign Claxton
Get a competent PG, even if a stop gap
Get value for DFS
Be opportunistic with Johnson
Spend one more year on the treadmill and reset the repeater tax
Go into '25 with a boatload of capspace, decent in prime and young pieces, and a ton of picks.

Making a big trade for a star this season eats picks and likely eliminates '25 max space. The Nets need to come way with 2 lead players/stars from a combination of Simmons' expiring (or eventual cap space), CamJ/DFS/Schroeder/Thomas and picks. The best bet for that is to wait for cap space first, unless they can snag overpaid talent for just the above players with no or minimal picks outgoing (e.g. LaVine for Simmons, or KAT/Ingram for CamJ+DFS).

Rebuild

1: Trade the Sun’s 1st’s to Houston for the Net’s 1st to kick start it

2: Just do Mikal and all basketball fans a favor and send him where he belongs: the Knicks

Get a pick package including: #24, #25, 25’ NY 1st, 25’ MIL 1st, DET 1st, WAS 1st, Mitch Robinson, Deuce McBride.

Maybe reroute Mitch to OKC for the DEN 25’ 1st since they sorely need rebounding and size in the paint.

3: Re-Sign Claxton, Watford, DSJr

4: Trade DFS to a contender for another future 1st

5: Waive Simmons. Constant injuries are a distraction, move on.

6: Draft BPA, or trade up for a better fit (da Silva?)

7: Land top 5-7 pick next year

Dennis Schröder | Dennis Smith Jr
Cam Thomas | Deuce McBride
Tristan da Silva? | Dariq Whitehead | Keita Bates-Diop
Cam Johnson | Trendon Watford | Noah Clowney
Nic Claxton | Day’Ron Sharpe

They have to shed claxton and camj to have max space on top of lauri and mikal
