I'll never stop -- Ferrari Doe comes home
THJ
Prosper
25 TOR 2nd
28 MIA 2nd
for
Finney-Smith
25 cap relief, a big forward prospect, a good 2nd, and maybe a good 2nd for the Nets.
DFS either replaces Jones or ideally if they follow this up with a Powell dump/stretch, Dallas adds him to Jones/Washington
And yes if Brooklyn can do better than this, they should definitely do that instead. But if you come at me with well it was reported he's worth 2 firsts, I apologize in advance for my inability to take that seriously.

I’m a fan of this.
Only concern is it brings Brooklyn moderately closer to the tax.

I think the Cavs would beat this offer with LeVert and #20.

If they do, Brooklyn should take it.
I do not believe Cleveland sees DFS as an upgrade to LeVert so I'd be surprised if they added a first round pick to swap the two myself.

All of Dallas loves Dorian. But I have this as an overpay.

What would you say is correct in terms of value?

I think it would be niang/filler/20

Yeah I have that as more likely as well. And I'm not saying Brooklyn can't get something better than my offer. But what I do notice is almost no posters looking to give up value to add DFS to the team they root for.
And if Cleveland offered that, then its does Brooklyn prefer 20 and money they have to move off or Prosper/2 2nds? I'd guess $8M is small enough they'd take the Cleveland package.

Probably keeping OMax or the Tor 2nd. Someone mentioned that OMax’s value is about an early 2nd right now and I agree. I have Dorian as worth about a couple 2nds, if he were shooting it like he was a couple seasons ago I could understand the 1st+ valuations but that was 2 years ago. As far as 2nds go, OMax or the Tor 25 are very high quality.

Re: I'll never stop -- Ferrari Doe comes home
I feel like DFS probably shoots around 40% from the corners again in Dallas. Or really in any competent offense. I'm all for paying less of course, but I think some of that shooting slide is about the quality of looks he isn't getting in Brooklyn. He was simply too consistent in Dallas on good volume for me to believe his shooting has regressed in any meaningful way. Especially since his shooting after the trade was about a hand injury.

I agree that the odds are DFS returns closer to what he was in Dallas for a few more seasons if he get on a good team again. Role players that are dependent on a system and/or stars rarely look good when those things are taken away. I think Brooklyn made a mistake not moving him fast when he was acquired because he is a cog player that was not going to elevate his game there.
I think if the right team had a later 1st 20+ it would consider offering it for DFS. Like if Memphis could pull this Smart/9/Aldama for Allen/20. Then I would follow that up with Kennard/20 for DFS. DFS would take whatever role we needed at the 3/4 and mentor GG/VWill.

I don’t think Cleveland should trade 20 for DFS until they know what they’re doing with the starters. But I do like the fit and wouldn’t hate either version of it for Cleveland.
Dallas, I do the OP and don’t fight over seconds.

The thing is, the Cavs' hope for #20 is they find a DFS-type in DaSilva, Holmes, or Furphy. But it might take those guys 3+ years to reach that level, if they get there at all. But they want that right now.

I offered LeVert as a similar type of player/role/contract to THJ, just to null out that element of the offer. If the Cavs could part with Niang instead, that would probably be preferable, although cutting money through LeVert may be nice for tax reasons.
From the Cavs' perspective, LeVert was trusted by JBB but he was always an inefficient player and the easiest way for the Cavs to improve is to eliminate touches for LeVert. There's a degree of addition by subtraction. Moving those touches to Mobley and Garland (under last year's team construction) would be a benefit.
And moving forward, DFS should be able to handle the 3 or the 4 depending what happens with the Cavs' core, specifically Allen.

I could 100% see that. But at this price I don’t think that’s a gamble I would take at this moment. If DJJ walks this becomes a far far far better bet for Dallas.
One thing that I loved about the Gafford and PJ trades is yes we spent assets and the war chest is lighter. But Dallas has more overall assets. I don’t see DFS as being a valuable trade piece in 18 months.

I meant.. I’d want to know who I traded out of Allen, Garland or Mitchell for before trading 20th for a specific fit. maybe it’s one maybe it’s two maybe it’s none..
DFS is really a good fit with almost any big move the Cavs do, so it still probably should get done honestly..
Don’t mind being the top bidder, don’t mind if Brooklyn owes a second back.
Just would hesitate..

There's a possibility #20 would be useful in another deal, true. But I'd assume that has a soft expiration around draft time.

The Nets got 3 2nds for an expiring Royce at the deadline. DFS is worth at least that, but probably more. If the Nets have a mid to late first round target in this draft, I think DFS can get them there. There were a lot of constraints on 1sts at the deadline due to the Stepien rule and other factors, that ease up on draft night.
