POR/WAS swap picks and guards
Portland
Out: Simons, Reath, 7, 34
In: Poole, 2, 26
Washington:
Out: Poole, 2, 26
In: Simons, Reath, 7, 34
Portland reason: Get the #2 pick to draft Sarr or Risacher (though maybe Wiz don’t make the trade of Sarr is available at 2), and get 26 to draft Holmes. This trade only works for Portland with a follow up trade that shaves money this season, such as trading Grant, Brogdon, Thybulle, because they actually take on a little money here immediately, though the extra year of Poole is the big sacrifice they take to make this trade happen. Sending out Reath also opens a roster spots making it easier for a follow up deal of one of the vets for multiple cheaper pieces. Blazers are unfortunately stuck with extra long term money in Poole, but hope salvage his value in a new environment.
Washington reason: Swap in the cheaper, higher scoring Simons for Poole, whose season was quite disappointing. Simons is a bit cheaper per year, and Poole’s final $34M is completely off the books. This costs them better positioning both early and in the middle of the draft, though they may still get players they like at those spots. They do get a promising center along with Simons.
Alternative: Instead of Reath, Wizards are welcome to Robert Williams and the Wizards can send back one of their cheaper contracts. Blazers would prefer this option to the above for financial purposes.

Re: POR/WAS swap picks and guards
i'd keep the #2 pick if iw as the wizards. not interested in paying to dump poole at this point in their rebuild. poole will be a better tank commander than Simons too

Re: POR/WAS swap picks and guards
For Washington the difference in Poole and Simons on the court really doesn't matter. They are going to suck regardless and Simons is more likely gone in 2 years. So I would have to see what assets Simons could be spun off for here to a 3rd team to determine if I want to drop in this draft.
Plus Washington is not going to value a 28 year old rookie center much.

Re: POR/WAS swap picks and guards
I was thinking about something like this last night. My counteroffer would be to remove the 26 and 34 out of the deal, and send Simons to the Magic for filler + #18 to the Wizards. So the final trade would be:
Wizards get: #7, #18, Isaac (filler from Orlando)
Trail Blazers get: #2, Poole
Orlando gets: Simons

ORL for sure isnt seeing Isaac as filler. Not sure who they can use as ballast here but for sure not him. And I would add the 2025 DEN FRP to WAS.

I hate the idea of Poole but I do this to get one of Sarr / Riascher.

Reath is mostly there for financial purposes. I kind of didn’t want to include him because of wanting another season of him in Portland, but he just made the most sense salary wise without throwing off the value of the trade. Kris Murray wouldn’t be out of the question as a swap in for Reath.

How about a variation to this:
Orlando
Cole Anthony + #18 + '25 Den
for
Simons + #40
Magic get their scorer
Portland
Simons + Walker + #14 + #34 + #40
for
Deni + #18 + #26 + '25 Den
Portland gets their ideal forward.
Value wise: #18<#14. #26=#34+#40 Simons+Walker=Deni+Denver pick
Washington
Deni + #26
for
Anthony + Walker + #14 + #34
Wizards get a replacement PG & PF. They clear the deck for the #2 pick (Sarr or Zach) while getting additional picks for talent.
Value wise: #26=Anthony. Deni=Walker + #14 + #34

The Wizards likely value Deni over any other player on the Bazers roster. I imagine they shut down the conversation when Blazers ask for him rather quickly.

Nope. Deni is going nowhere. Not even remotely close. Kuzma sure…but Portland has nothing worth Deni unless they want to come off that 2025 unprotected pick.

Ya I can only see WAS moving Demi if they take Riascher and someone comes up with a huge overpay. Like Giddey, 12 and 2 future picks type overpay.

Re: POR/WAS swap picks and guards
Wiz fan here - swapping Kuz for Simons and going from 2 to 7 makes sense if we can then get more picks for Simons. Good idea.
Would depend on what other picks the Wiz could get for Simons. Or maybe package up Kuz and Simons to a team that just needs more firepower. Wiz would be leaning even more into 12 wins and Sag for Flagg/Pooper for Cooper in 2025.

Kuz works better for Blazers than Poole, I just figured Washington would rather get rid of Poole. Simons could likely net you 2 1sts, a mid-2024 first and a future first from a decent team.

OP makes a lot more sense than this. Think of it this way, even if you are pro tank, do you really want to be seeing a Poole/Simons backcourt playing together.

Likely? It's possible that the Magic offer their first and the Denver 1st, but if they won't, I can't see another team that would. If I'm the Wizards, I want the Magic included in the trade.

Brain fart - meant swapping Poole for Simons and dropping from 2 to 7 makes sense for the Wiz! Then trading Simons for other stuff.

Re: POR/WAS swap picks and guards
Simons is better than Poole, but still not good enough to be a quality starter on a good team. Like Poole, he is an undersized gunner who doesn't defend. That prototype is an instant-offense sixth man on a good team. If they start for you, it's because you're not good.
The Wizards aren't going to trade any draft capital for a guy who doesn't project as a starter 4 years down the road. They're much better off going for the highest upside talent in the draft and hoping that pans out.
As others have said, if Simons can be flipped for enough draft capital to justify the drop from #2 to #7, then sure, I'd be interested. But I'll wait until such a trade is proposed that interests a third team. For now, I don't think Simons really has much value.
