Thunder/Pels Something new

Giddey
Dieng
#12
25 PHI 1st(top 6, top 4, top 4, 27 PHI 2nd
29 DEN 1st (top 5, top 5, 30 Den 2nd)
for
Ingram
Pels get a PG, a meh prospect, a lotto pick, and two future lightly protected firsts. And I'd argue they might be better just playing their younger wings as is considering the rest of the lineup makeup. Also get a nice TPE as Dieng fits into an existing TPE.
Thunder still save $15M in cap space for their pursuit of Hartenstein(and can create more obviously if need be). Get a nice secondary offensive option, but with no long-term commitment if he's not the answer. But its just a straight rotation swap of he for Giddey which should really help.

Are we going after a star with this package? Or are we trading Zion and CJ too?

I don't have them trading Zion. CJ feels like a guy who makes more sense after this trade than before.
As to a star, I think New Orleans should always be pursuing that regardless. To me this is just getting some good value out of a player who doesn't fit great with young wings ready to step up and take his minutes. They aren't as good, particularly offensively, as individual players but I think in terms of lineup construction I wouldn't expect New Orleans to take a big step back. But maybe I'm higher on all of Murphy, Daniels, and Hawkins than you are?

Bit rich for New Orleans by 1 1st, so not bad.
Not sure Ingram is the glue the team needs in New Orleans. If they want him for one year then Giddey+Dieng+#12 makes sense.

Agree. I felt like it was an OKC overpay as well, but not so egregious as to not be willing to do so. Also, agree not sold he's the missing piece for OKC, but I like the fit.

What about the fit in OKC?
Ingram needs the ball to be effective.
He's not a great 3p Shooter.
His defense is meh at best.
He's gonna cost a lot.
Doesnt fix rebounding.
Costs a lot.
Steps into J-Dub space.
I don't like this for Thunder, if you haven't notice yetm

The fan base is high on all 3 for the most part. But at this point, making trades that result in "won't take a step back" won't make any fan happy. It could be the smart move to make a big trade at the deadline but going into next season with the same roster minus our #2 is going to be ugly.

That's fair. This trade doesn't preclude other moves, but it might be easiest to just add value to Ingram directly for the upgrade for sure. Was just exploring something else.

If any other WC contender acquired Ingram, I wouldn’t be afraid of that team as an OKC fan, so I can understand why other WC contending fans would be ok with the idea of OKC acquiring Ingram. If they overpaid to do do, all the better.
I think OKC should be looking for their version of Andre Iguodala or Aaron Gordon. I don’t think Ingram fits that mold. I would be more interested in giving minutes to the meh prospect.

If OKC is putting those assets out there I want to talk about Herb. Likely something for Herb and Nance.

NOP needs to part with one of Ingram or Murphy (or CJ) due to $$$. Trading Herb for Giddey makes that worse, not better

Yup, trading Herb is the non-starter with his contract and role.
Trading the expensive player(s) is the route which makes the most sense.

I loved this idea before the playoffs. After watching Ingram in the Dorture chamber, I'm out.
Ingram showed he's not a focal point guy, for that price we'd need a guy that can help Shai get us out of a stuck offense.

Not a fan of Giddey even though he killed us all year. Im not willing to bet that the shot will improve enough to give him any real value so arguably the spacing gets even worse for this team. The picks are fine and Im ok going for a player with more upside than a bonafide star (my favorite option for this is Cam Whitmore) but Giddey isn't the player Id risk that move on because he is a horrible fit on the team if the shot doesn't improve.
Also regarding Hartenstein, there's nothing Ive seen out of OKC that indicates to me that he would be the type of guy they'd get. I bet they try for another shooter either via trade of the draft.

As already mentioned, Herb is the guy I want.

I don’t understand most NOP fans. They talk about how capable Murphy and Jones are and that they are ready to step up. To make this happen NOP needs to move some money -Ingram - and make cost saving moves.
Some see Ingram as a negative with the ability to walk away. If this is true, then the return is less than ideal.
Some see his scoring and think he is a positive. In which case he should only be traded for a star player.
My view is this trade is probably pretty decent but would want another player with size going to NOP.

The unseen undercurrent to all the Pelicans trades is how much will it cost to extend Murphy and Ingram. If Murphy is going to sign the team-friendly extension that has been rumored, he probably should be borderline untouchable. If Ingram will agree to a 25% extension, or less, he probably should have good trade value. But the answer to those questions aren't currently known and Ingram's trade value in particular is going to be pretty dependent upon what he's willing to accept.

I can’t see why Murphy would leave money on the table. You get a limited number of times to make unbelievable salary. Have to ask for the moon when you can.

I'm a little skeptical myself but you throw $100-150M in front of a young man in his earl 20s, and it's hard to turn down.
