Nemb / Eas / Ing (IND-HOU-NOP)

Post#1 » by YayBasketball » Mon Jun 3, 2024 1:34 pm

Here's a fun, original idea.
*Note, all of my Ingram fake trade ideas and comments value him as if he and his agent have discussed/committed to extending/re-signing with the acquiring team, and probably at a less than maximum possibe salary number. I think this is a good perspective when discussing Ingram's trade value, because I don't see Mr. David Griffin selling so low on Ingram. If it comes down to it, think he would choose to extend Ingram and/or keep him into the season and reassess Ingram trades at the 2025 trade trade deadline-- rather than accept a low-value offer for Ingram.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IND out: Nembhard
IND in: Eason + pick #21

HOU out: Eason + salary fillers (Some of Jeff Green/Landale/Tate/Adams?) + pick #3
HOU in: Ingram

NOP out: Ingram + pick #21
NOP in: Nembhard + pick #3 + salary filler from HOU

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rockets, after missing out on Bridges and Mitchell, get a quasi-star to make a strong playoff push while keeping most of their core. Spotrac trade checker has Eason + Tate, Landale, and Jeff Green as 1.7 mil. short of the required outgoing matching salary to take in Ingram. So unless they can somehow convert Nate Hinton's two-way contract to a standard tradeable contract (???)-- then Adams would have to be the main outgoing salary, plus two or more of Tate/Landale/Jeff Green. No ideal since they probably like Adams, but not a deal breaker. Eason is talented, but with the rise of Amen and Whitmore, this trade clears a development path for them while adding a big win-now piece.

Pacers balance thier roster by cashing in on Nembhard's big postseason, getting a super wing defender with enough offense in Eason, with a value 2 years left of his rookie contract. #potential- who can also contribute now. They also get the #21 pick to add a flyer depth piece or to use in another trade. This also likely clears a starting role for Mathurin to take a leap in development. Dyson Daniels could also be a target of interest in variations of this deal. Adams would fit a need as backup Center to get in this trade, but to take his salary Nesmith would have to go out.
Example of alternate trade:
Nembhard, Nesmith, K. Brown out
/ Eason, Daniels, Adams, pick #21 in.

Pelicans try to get Jabari Smith or Jalen Green (or Sengun or Amen) as the main piece in return for Ingram, but they compromise for Eason, moving up to pick #3, and expirings. With similar players Herb and Daniels already in the fold, they wrap in the Pacers as a third team to send Eason and #21 to. They take a calculated gamble on Nembhard being their playmaking/spacing guard of the future. They can have a talk with McCullom to embrace a 6th man role or trade him.
They also use Ingram's value as a high-level playmaking wing to get to the #3 overall pick, likely to take one of Sarr, Clingan, Risacher, or Sheppard. Landale/Tate/Jeff Green can be depth and expiring salary for a deadline deal, but if Adams is required, he could be rerouted.

I think the framework of this deal is interesting and find the rationale well thought-out and well articulated.

Oddly enough, it could be a 4-team deal, with Nembhard+CJ+#3 sent to Minnesota for Towns.

I think you are overvaluing Ingram. A lot.

That's a lot of incoming players for N.O. and the Rockets books are going to be a mess after this even if Ingram agrees to take 25% of the cap.

Ingram isn't my cup of tea and definitely wouldn't want to be paying for his next contract.

It’s a good idea for Indy, but I think Indy would prefer to give it another year and see what Walker does in that same role at the backup 3 this next year. The 21 in this draft just isn’t the incentive needed to push this over the line. But Eason is a good target, and this may be the value to get him. I’m just not sure Indy would want to do this right now.

Easy no for Houston. Hate to sound like a broken record but Eason isn't going anywhere.

I don't think I'd offer anything of value for Ingram to be honest.

I think the value is fair. It takes care of our glut of talent at the point, but without adding clarity at the wing spot.
We'd just have three potential starters there instead.
Better would be Nembhard and Nesmith for an experienced stud who would be the clear starter, leaving minutes for Walker to grow.
Mikal Bridges in other words. Or OG.

The asset I value most from Houston is Cam. Id be willing to trade Ingram straight up for him if the salary matched. Id try that first before asking for 3. Ideally it would be the 3 and Cam, but Im not sure how realistic that is.

How good do you guys actually think Ingram is, because I wouldn't trade any of Houston's core for him.

I don't like this for Houston at all. I'm not sure you can fully get 1 of Eason or #3 (definitely not) for Ingram let alone both.

Seems to me unless I read this wrong it's Eason and filler plus #3 for Ingram.

That seems too much for Ingram.

Eason for Nembhard straight up to make a lot more sense then adding Ingram into the deal. I don’t know if it’s something the team would do but they would certainly have to give it a hard look

Yeah, Eason is not going anywhere. I'm not sure if the Rockets do it with just the filler and the #3 pick.

Ingram is the wrong move for the Rockets right now. They have to pay all of the young guys soon. Giving Ingram a big contract is not the way to go.

I don't think the Pacers should do this in the summer, but we can revisit trading for a tall 3 near the deadline after we've seen if Walker or pick 36 can fill that role.
