LAL - BK

LAL: Dorian Finey-Smith
BK: Jared Vanderbilt, Christian Wood
Why for Brooklyn: Turn the last year of Finey-Smith's deal into a player that is 6 years younger with 3 additional years of team control. Wood is a cap filler to make the trade work under the CBA.
Why for LAL: Finey-Smtih is a better win now piece for the Lakers, giving them a big, 2-way wing to compliment Lebron/AD in the front court.

I got DFS positive value while JV close to a slight negative/neutral. JV doesn't fit with Clax either. Nets better off trading DFS for a pick/expiring and not a guy on a long term deal if they still have FA plans in 2025.

I think LAL owes Brooklyn a few seconds.
And probably a third team getting JV, unless Brooklyn is changing their 2025 plans.

I viewed JV as a piece Brooklyn would end up flipping. He's on a fair contract given his skill set even without developing an outside shot. His longer contract gives Brooklyn time for the market to play out.

I like JV more than most.
But he isn’t as good as DFS due to his offense..
And Brooklyn is at least halfway committed to 2025 cap space so locking in another 10-11 million with the hope of flipping it feels like a bad idea.
But it feels like an easy third team add and have LA throw in a couple seconds.

Lakers would owe Brooklyn a first.
The Nets have some second rounders they could throw into the deal if necessary.

Pass
Who I am more itnerested in from BKN is Cam Johnson
Not sure if its enough, but something like Rui, #17, JHS, a 2028 swap, and some 2nds?

That’s a huge overpay for Cam.. Think you can probably add a Vandy/DFS swap. And still be a deal Brooklyn shouldn’t turn down.
But I think DFS+seconds for Vandy+17th is probably the closest. Especially if Vandy ends up on a third team that would send more seconds back to LAL.

Yikes.
I'd value Rui over Cam. Holy smokes.

Agree with the value re: Cam Johnson.
Also, can't see the Lakers using their limited asset pool to add another forward.

I think there is a very good argument that DFS is better due to his offense, but JV can improve offensively and DFS can't get 6yrs younger.

We’ve been waiting for that improvement for 6 years though?
I don’t mean it sarcastically and I do think teams would take the chance on getting him to a 35+ percent corner three and that being good enough due to his impact.
But they’re not paying LAL for a two way player. Just don’t see why that’s something to disagree with.
He’s a slight positive because of his defense impact. DFS is more of a positive because he doesn’t hurt your offense.
If JV worked on his range and was as good as Doedoe from 3, he’d be worth more than Doedoe due to contract/age.

Lebron is 40, AD had a rare healthy season. Any argument that is well this guy isn't as playable but he's younger isn't one I think the Lakers should be considering. Now a non-contender might think our shooting coach can get him to 38% from the corners and he's worthy seeing if we can do that.
But Lakers should absolutely prefer the guy they know has to be guarded.

I'm not saying LAL shouldn't or wouldn't pay more for the swap. I am also not saying that there wouldn't be better offers, but given where BRK is they are probably better of with the younger player.

Why did I think Cam was also 26, but yes looks like an overpay when I look back
I value Cam>Rui though
Better shooter and quicker on the perimeter
Funny enough BKN could use a forward with more size since thyw have bridges already
And we could use one with more mobility and shooting
Both are poor rebounders
Rui, #17, and maybe a swap or a couple seconds seems better

I like Vanderbilt, but not for Brooklyn. I don't know that either of these teams are very interested in things the other team wants to give.

Lakers should absolutely prefer CamJ over DFS.
Some combination of Rui, Vando, Vincent and #17
