What can DET get with cap space only?

According to spotrac, Detroit has $64.4M in practical cap space assuming we're not stupid enough to pick up Fournier's club option

We need to spend a whopping $50M on salaries by opening night just to get to 90% of the salary cap a.k.a. the salary floor of $127M. Apart from Cade's likely extension next year, we won't have any contracts > 10% of the cap in 2025-26 either -- so even with Cade's extension, we could have even more space next year if we only fill up our cap sheet with 1 year contracts

We can take contracts of almost any size in exchange for a protected SRP and the resulting TPE

What are the best offers for salary dumps?

I'd offer up Tyler Herro, personally. Not sure the team would, but I would.

Best offer so far!

Also, yes, I'd take Herro for cap space

Why would Heat do that?

The TPE. Probably would need to be part of a 2 step process, or a 3 team trade, to make it worth it for Miami

Add another significant contract (Robinson?) to Herro and you could get a TPE large enough for Miami to trade for almost anyone without needing to send salary out

Financial solvency. It gets us well below the tax at $153 million after moving Herro. We could use the MLE, keep Martin and/or Highsmith, and replace Herro with Duncan Robinson. And yes, adding someone like Robinson to the trade with no salary coming back (that seems like a tall order, but we'll go with it) allows us to use three first round picks, Jovic, Jaquez, and pure cap space to acquire whomever we'd like.

Can’t combined contracts into one TPE

If it's part of the same trade it's one TPE

John Collins, if the Jazz actually are going "big game hunting" as has been rumored.

It isn’t. TPE doesn’t work that way.

Say you traded Robinson and Herro into pure cap space, both of them, you would get a TPE for Herro’s total and 2nd one for Robinson’s total. Not added together.

Scoot, can you weigh in?

If Miami trades Herro and Robinson to Detroit for a top-55 protected SRP, is one TPE created, or two?

Only with a time travel device to go back a couple of years. That, or some incentive -- I don't have Pat C as neutral value to the Pistons

2 tpe created, but if its part of same trade then It can be used as salary matching together for one large contract coming back

Detroit trade: fake 2nd
Detroit receive: robinson, herro, assets

Miami trade: herro, Robinson, assets
Miami receive: star

Team x trade star
Team x receive: assets

lol you don’t need to ask Scoot. Google it. Or better yet, look at any of the trade machines. They all have TPEs listed for each team. Why would they have multiple players listed from same transaction? Like, OKC trade 10/23 - one dude’s TPE, and 2nd dude’s TPE from same trade. Those would be combined to create one large TPE.

If the Mavs want a chance to retain DJJ, they will have to unload THJ, I guess pay 2FRP (similar J.Harris trade)

They can be combined when still contracts (players) but not when TPEs.

Become 2 separate TPEs after initial trade for ever and always (because TPEs can’t be combined).
