Gets the best player in the deal to help the 2024-25 playoff push.

Just take the Pacers out. I think they value Nembhard enough to make a push with him.

Yeah, I think Indiana holds onto him unless they need draft assets for a bigger trade. Otherwise it would take an overpay that won't materialize for him to be moved.

If DLo opts in, Lakers better off keeping him than a marginal upgrade for double the contract

No reason for IND to move a fine young player for a late pick in a mediocre draft.

They're really not that close in a vacuum... maybe in a really strong draft, but not in an average one and definitely not in this one. Nembhard has proven himself a starter in this league, he's young and just entering his prime, coming off a great playoffs, on a cheap deal and soon to be extended... when would a guy like that get traded for a 21st pick? Much less in a "worst draft ever" type of draft?

Can you explain why you think this draft in the teens and 20s is worse than any other draft?

From all the work I have done, it's the lack-of top end talent that's weak, but plenty of higher-floor players [like Nembhard] exist in the 20s.

I accept your view of the draft but why would we trade Nembhard for someone who has the potential to be as good as he is? If we were convinced that we should trade a point guard for a defensive wing, we should shop TJ and not Nembhard.

1) Nembhard has more value
2) Nembhard's contract situation isn't easy. The Pacers can offer 4/76-ish or make him an UFA after this year.
3) The Pacers already have back-court depth

These are 3 reasons why the Pacers would shoo Nembhard. I don't think the Pacers will actively shop Nembhard and my only contribution in this thread was responding to someone saying Nembhard >>>>>>>>>> Pick #21.

Drew is 24. TJ is 32. 32 - 24 = 8. call it a treadmill move if you will, but my vote is for long term success.

Let's say for argument's sake it's not as bad as everyone says (I'll admit I don't follow the draft too closely and I am just going off what has been repeated elsewhere ad nauseum)

let's just look at all the 20th, 21st, and 22nd picks over the last few years, excluding last year as it's too early to judge rookies.

Out of that 5-year span, there is ONE player who is definitively better than Nembhard (Maxey). There's another couple who are in the same range as Nembhard (Jalen Johnson, maybe Walker Kessler, Grayson Allen?) and then a bunch of guys who are not as good. About a third of them are even starting players.

So yeah I'd say a guy like Nembhard is worth more than the 21st pick.

I'm a Pels fan that hates CJ McCollum and I don't like this trade.

Drew has proven to be a playoff performer against elite defense, he's young, and he's cheap. You're describing a player who garners a top 10 pick, or multiple late 1sts. Look at the list of starting PGs entering the season. I'd say he's in the top half of starters. The youth and clutch play raises his value further.

Not to mention, there are multiple teams that want to compete that have a weakness at PG.

If the Pels want Drew, the price of admission is Trey Murphy.

Yeah. I think Philly easily gives their first and gets a starter without impacting cap space. And Indy have no interest in shopping him, he’s a great fit and you can see a three guard rotation with Hali/Mathurin lasting as long as they stay in Indy.. Cutting the Indy part out feels best.

But doing LAL’s trade is smart for NOP assuming they find the right third team. Murray for Russell+Daniels+pick(s) type add on would seem the low hanging fruit?

Yea, I don’t have this being remotely close for the Pacers.

I do think the Pacers should trade Nembhard, but they aren’t going to give him away for a late first, that’s ridiculous.
