Raps get 2 chances at a mid 2nd the next couple seasons and some salary savings. While getting a bench shooter back

Olynyk might be a great pick up for CLE.

i rather keep olynyk as the steady vet in the room/stretch five next to barnes.

a) if we are not trading poeltl and trying to compete we need olynyk as our backup 5
b) if we are rebuilding and trading poeltl we need olynyk as the stopgap starting 5

imo this is worse than the tucker/2nds proposal from before.

Eh, this one is at least legal.

If this is all it costs to get Olynyk I'd happily offer Looney (expiring) and 2 2nds for him.

(edit: for CBA reasons it would have to be either Looney/GP2/2nds for Olynyk/McDaniels or Looney/Moody for Olynyk)

The value is fair, and I'd love to do it, but I don't think the Cavs go into the tax a year early to turn Niang into Olynyk.

Cleveland still resents Olynyk for injuring Kevin Love when he was on the Celtics, otherwise something like this might be realistic.

Is Olynyk better than Niang?

In the RS, I'd say yes. It's not just on court value, but also off the court and in the locker room.

In the PS, I'd go the other way and favour Niang. I've watched Olynyk a lot (time on Pistons, time on Canada NT, time on Raptors, a few other times). To me, Olynyk is the epitome of a 4th big who will mostly drop out of the rotation on a good playoff team. OTOH, Niang has a role on any playoff team, even if it's just a situational bench piece.

Both teams should say no for different reasons. TOR should care about the RS and the locker room. CLE should care about the PS.

I dont think the Raptors should trade Olynyk unless some team is willing to overpay. Its not easy to find a guy like him who can space the floor at the center position. He's also a nice fit Barnes and he's Canadian.

True but they were getting 30 games as it was a mid-season trade with his contract expiring and becoming an UFA. Now he's locked into a decent 3 year deal. Still the Raptors gave up a 1st for him and Ochai.

I just dont think two seconds is enough incentive for the the Raptors.

I think the OP doesn’t understand that they brought Olynyk in for cultural purposes. They want vets who can be mentors for the rebuild and that want to be in Toronto. A sideways deal like this isn’t happening.

The reality is that neither Niang nor Olynyk are positives on the floor when their shots aren't dropping. He posted a stinker series in Philly as well.
