Butler to MEM

Jimmy Butler
for
Luke Kennard
Santi Aldama
Marcus Smart
John Konchar
1 or 2 FRPs (reasonably top protected)
MIA gets Smart to replace Butler’s defence and leadership, together with Aldama who perfectly complements Bam, a couple of good rotation players and picks (if necessary)
MEM relies on Vince W. and Castle (#9) as its POA defenders, while brings a much needed star forward who is arguably in decline but still capable to perform at the highest level.

I don't have Miami trading Butler for Smart, so yes picks would be necessary you'd have to think. But basically I just don't see Miami going this direction.
Is Memphis prepared to pay Butler what he is going to want or risk him being a problem? Not sure Memphis can afford to pay him and if you don't not sure you want him around.

I actually would love a Butler to Memphis trade for both teams, but Memphis really needs to include a lot on top of Smart and filler. The 9th pick has to be included, and if I'm Miami I also want GG Jackson. Smart + filler + Jackson + 9.

I am not sure if the difference between Smart and Butler is two lottery picks. Also, Aldama is similar to GG in terms of potential.

1. I doubt that non-Memphis fans share that perception of Aldama/GG, so it makes more sense to include GG if you feel that way
2. I don't see two lottery picks in the deal, I see #9 and a future first from a team that will still have Ja/Bane/JJJ, and that team is only missing the playoffs with major injury. Could it be a lottery pick? Obviously, but it probably isn't. GG also played well, but I don't think a team would give a lottery pick for him, even in this draft, though I would not be SHOCKED if a team from 10-14 would.

Butler in Memphis is damn near unbeatable.
They have to give up GG to get that done imo

I have Butler as a terrible option for us. Old, expensive, cannot shoot anymore, and ornery. I cannot see him on board coming here regardless.

OP is absolutely not getting Jimmy out of Miami. Number 9 has to be included as does GG

Butler is a terrible fit as a 3 on the Grizz. Old, decent defender and can’t shoot

This trade is ridiculous. Butler is going to go to whoever he wants to go. The return will be near nothing.

If we're getting Donovan, I'd also like to get Smart.
In fact, Memphis has some assets that interest Miami and they have a better chance than most of the teams mentioned.

Agreed, I dont get it at all. Butler is still great, but he is breaking down and wants 200 mill. He is 35 years old this season.

I am sure as part of the trade from Boston a stipulation that Smart can never play for the Heat was part of the deal.
Its not a bad overall trade from a value standpoint for either side, but I just don’t see either team going in this direction

It's terrible, value wise, for Miami. As I said, we're not even listening if GG and 9 aren't included.

Yes it matters what the picks are for sure. I think it take 2 and one has to be strong one. Either #9 or 2025 with light protection.
I think terrible is a bit of a strong word…we are looking at 2025 Butler not 2021 Butler.
Like I said I don’t love it for either team. It seams a lateral move at best for Miami and taking a really big chance for Memphis.

Butler is a terrible fit in Memphis as a past his prime, soon to be overpaid, undersized PF. And I also don´t like his new hair.

He's not a power forward. He has never been a power forward more than situationally. That's not his game.

I look at the Irving trade for comparison. And Irving is younger. They got back a filler in Dinwiddie (who was cut) a solid role player on a MLE type deal and a unprotected 1st 4 years later. both players were/are in walk years. But from a team with a young top 10 player on the roster.

agreed, better matching up against 2s than he is 4s.
