ORL/POR…if
IF Stephon Castle drops to #7…
ORL sends: Jett Howard, #18, DEN 25 frp
POR sends: Brogdon, #7
POR gets below the cap, grabs last years lottery pick who fits their need for a sweet-shooting wing. Still pick at 14 & 18 in a pretty flat draft.
ORL bets heavy on Castle becoming their PGOTF. He tones down his PG NOW rhetoric because he understands that Brogdon has a 1yr deal, often misses time, and the gig is his to take. I think Anthony Black thrives at SF, in the Ingles role…for those concerned about him.

That's a big drop. I think I'd need more as Portland. I do really like the addition of Brogdon here though. That swap adds value to both sides. But as Portland I need high end talent, not 3 more lower level prospects.

honestly think i would prefer Knecht or Dillingham over Castle. Castle's scouting reminds me a lot of Fultz, minus the injury issue with his shot. He is just not a good shooter.

Also reminds me of Fultz coming out, but with fierce defense already…I love that profile in a healthy big body. I think the shooting development is worth the risk for what we’d pay and the potential upside of a “big, healthy Fultz” long-term…not to mention Brogdon and moving up for a shooter in second round. I could be talked into Dillingham, who some say is best talent in whole draft, but not Knecht over Castle, imo. Scheierman might be better NBA player than Knecht, with less hype.
I’m just really high on Castle and moving up isn’t likely as costly as chasing Murray, Simons, etc for that job…especially with Brogdon filling in as a perfect temporary fit ( or more than temporary- he’s a forgotten guy who has been at his career best in recent years…not without injury concerns, but still a VERY good add-in that POR really doesn’t need).

i get it, but those guys are ready now. Castle could take years to be productive and doesnt help our shooting woes from PG. and Brogdon is a bit of a forgotten guy because he cant stay healthy.

Jett hasn’t shown anything to show he is worth a lotto pick and those picks don’t make up the difference.

Meh…neither has Knecht or the others coming out…Jett’s no sure thing, but as part of a package? Brogdon not even guaranteed to play (only meaning there’s always questions). Certainly Castle’s no sure thing either. This draft isn’t typical in pick values.
What about?
ORL sends… Black, Cole, ORL 25, DEN 25
POR sends…#7, Simons

Castle is going to be a top 5 pick, likely to the Spurs at 4

Pass for POR.
POR has no business sending out a lotto pick for another guard.
Something around Simons for AB might be doable.

Simons is a great shooter, but Orlando is building their entire squad around 2 way players. Isn't Simons rated like dead last as far as defense?

I'm confident he could do better in ORL...just like we're all confident that AB can develop more than dead last in offense...not being a wiseass, I really think Mosely has a cult here with Suggs and Isaac as Lieutenants of Defense. Simons has tremendous athleticism and length to go with his unquestioned offense...I'd take that bet that he could at least be "decent" defensively in our scheme. Mosley turned Fultz into a tough defender, Cole and Ingles haven't been kicked off the island yet.

He is a terrible defensive player, a mediocre playmaker and ball handler but an excellent shooter.
ORL is solid defensively but is terrible from outside. Simons shooting and secondary playmaking are solid additions for a team with the team defense to hide his epic stink on that end.

Re: ORL/POR…if
Even if we take our the #7, I have zero interest in this trade. This is three quarters for a dollar. Portland probably has zero interest in Jett Howard having just added a bunch of prospect wings and whomever could be selected at #7 and/or 14.

I don't see any incentive at all in that deal to make the Blazers willing to drop from #7 to #18. And at minimum, you should have offered the more favorable of the Orlando/Denver first's.
my hunch is that Blazer management is exploring options to possibly move from #7 up to #5 or #3, rather than drop all the way out of the lottery

Re: ORL/POR…if
This makes no sense for Portland. Unless they're viewing Brogdon as clear negative value they're willing to give up value to dump.
I also don't see the need for Orlando to move up targeting yet another guard who can't shoot.

I’d consider the OP with the 14 going out, not the 7. Maybe Portland tosses in the #40.

As a last choice I would take him, but there are several guys I would go after first.

There is some talk of Orlando wanting to trade up for Jared McCain.
What would Orlando offer to trade up from 18 to 14?
