Mavs/Magic. another from Gafford

MAVS
In:WCJ
Out: Gafford

Mavs gets a 5 with different abilities, especially his shooting, which could be Maxi's long-term replacement

and it would give us a weapon to counteract the 5 outs

MAGIC
In: Gafford
Out:WCJ

why?positional fit, they get a better rim protector and shot blocker

Love it for ORL and DAL...I've pitched it before, as Lively has shown readiness, the versatility is useful. They can even play together, depending on matchups.

No reason for Dallas to disrupt the chemistry here.If you watch Orlando, WCJ looks like one of the smaller guys on the court. Not to mention he's always injured. Dallas shouldn't touch this

Huh. Fascinating.

As a fan of neither team, I'd favour WCJ over Gafford by a small amount

I feel like the value is off and should favor WCJ far more.

What was the package for Gafford at the trade deadline? Richard Holmes and 26th in this draft (considered a weak draft).

I feel confident saying WCJ could return more on the market this offseason but furthermore, I just think he's a more valuable player given his 3pt shot and defensive versatility.

Gafford's value has increased considerably, he is a starter in an NBA finalist, I think the availability should close any value gap as well..
I would add that Gafford is a better rebounder and a much better shot blocker, averaging +2 per game and Carter just 0.5... like I said positional adjustment

I'd rate WCJ equal, maybe even arguable that he's all around better...but it's certainly close and the fit (on both ends) is what makes this work for me. I think WCJ will show a lot more tricks in his bag if he's not between 2 unicorn forwards...no knock on any of them, just fit and what's needed. I'd add that ORL moving to this type of C only makes sense if there's an even more dramatic offensive upgrade at Lead Guard...otherwise, it's handcuffing an already weak offense even more. I love Gafford at his price point (WCJ too)...given that Claxton might command $25m and can't shoot a free throw, I'd happily "compromise" with Gafford and spend on that Guard(s) deficit...they'd have enough to bring in Monk AND Tyus Jones, purely out of their wallet.

It makes pretty good sense. As Lively improves, he will deserve more minutes. It's not possible to play him alongside Gafford, but he could play alongside WCJ for 10 minutes a game so that he gets 30-32 minutes a game and WCJ gets 25-27 or so.

He played 14 minutes in game 1 and I think it will be even less moving forward. He is becoming unplayable (in this series - but you mentioned it) and his archetype is so much easier (and cheaper) to find.

The 3 point shot and defensive versatility from the 5 spot still, more valuable.

The knock on WCJ is injuries. I think that brings them closer but still not equal...

One season too early imo.

I think upcoming season lively can still play with gafford for 2-3 mins and hence I will lean towards gafford availability superiority.

Health makes Gafford significantly more valuable, Mavs have enough health adventure with Maxi and Kyrie...

Dont think mavs want a different look. I think they want to be able to keep playing the same game 48min. If wcj were to join it would be to replace kleber

Im more okay with this than other Dallas fans. I think one summer is all Lively needs to be ready for a few more minutes and WCJ offers a different style was still being a big body in paint..

But I’m giving up on our Maxi unfortunately..
