Mavs/Blazers/Hornets/Raptors

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Mon Jun 10, 2024 2:29 pm

This would be done on draft night, at the time the Mavs have their selection available.

MAVS
In:Brogdon/34
Out:Green/THJ/Raptors SRP25/Mavs 25

Mavs get a proven quality guard who shoots the 3 at high percentages and can create offense.. enter this year's Draft
They save up to bring back DJJ

BLAZERS
In:Mavs 25/Mcdaniels
Out: Brogdon/34

Obtain an FRP for an expiring Brogdon

HORNETS
In:Green
Out:nothing

In the PJ trade, it was reported that the Hornets wanted Green...here you get him for free

RAPTORS
In:THJ/Raptors SRP25
Out: Mcdaniels

They get their selection back, they get a shooter, and they move the salary space to 2025

I don’t get why Toronto would really want to add THJ unless they’re getting paid to take him. I feel like a third team may be needed to take on Brogdon if possible. Kyrie, Luka, and Hardy are a formidable 3 man guard rotation. I don’t see the value adding Brogdon there.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

They are getting a Mid-30s 2nd. Feels like something when they take on about $5.3 Million extra

I agree. Brogdon doesn't seem like an archetype Dallas needs.

Would love to have a Brogdon on the bench.

But he is not worth the last of the assets for this run of Mavericks. Getting 34 is nice, but 34 isn’t getting Dallas the perimeter defender they need. The 2025 first probably will.

i might take Green late in the summer if we strike out on every other opportunity to add wings, but i'd rather not lock in his contract the next 3 years.

I think we're much happier snagging Grant Williams than him in the PJ trade.

Mavs are doing all of that for Brogdon????

They can technically just get Bruce Brown, who plays defense and plays 1-3.

THJ + Raps 2nd + minor asset (OMax?)
for
Bruce Brown

Keep Green. He seems good.

Hardaway makes $16.2M, but McDaniels only makes $4.7M -- an $11.5M difference.

The trade is only legal for Toronto if they are under the cap. Toronto would also have to decline Bruce Brown's option, renounce Trent, and give up their TPEs to make this trade. A single SRP isn't worth it.

If there's a scenario to re-work this where Charlotte ends up with Brogdon, that is the type of acquisition I think they'd be looking to make.

echo that, I'd much rather have Brogdon for a year than Green for 3. I'd have a hard time topping what's being given to Portland though, we can't send a 1st

Brogdon does have value to Portland for he provides veteran leadership as a mentor to Scoot
and is an expiring contract and an easy path to getting under the tax line.

I'd rather the Blazers trade Grant

I wanna move both of them and would pull the trigger on whichever brings back a FRP (with Portland eating poor salary or kicking in seconds/role players if necessary).

Scoot got a year with Brogdon and Billups can offer similar insights. If more than that is required to get a decent player out of Scoot then it's a lost cause anyways. No reason to hold up everyone else from moving on at the right time and keeping Brogdon hostage here. I'm not desperate to move him before the season starts but when the right deal walks past I am jumping on it.

This gets us out of the tax and gets us another first round pick

We could always pick up another vet for a season to give scoot some Werther's Original while we enjoy that first round pick
