SAS already have 2 lotto picks this draft. They are better off keeping future picks or trade for trae themselves.

Trae also cost more than Green #3 and a 2027 swap (you also cant trade another teams swap rights directly like this, but you can swap the better of HOU/BRK 1st with ATL 2027 1st)

Why would San Antonio trade 2 unprotected first round picks and an unprotected swap for #3 in this draft when they already have #4 and #8? If the Hawks are moving Trae, then those picks become way more valuable to the Spurs.

Article in the news today says Houston is considering Clingan at 3. Spurs have been linked at 4 with neither team in need of drafting a C. Where Hawks are rumored to be exploring trade down options with specified interest in Clingan. Hawks can't trade Young without getting their draft rights back or it won't be a viable direction to rebuild not owning their draft rights for 3 yrs. Spurs will have to be compensated for Hawks to get their 25 draft rights back, where that control holds a lot of value to the Spurs.

If Atlanta want Young, Spurs Garland & Hawks a potential trade down for Clingan as rumored.

Cavs trade - (Garland) for (BI) - not sure if pick value is needed or not

Spurs trade - (Keldon, Collins, #8, Spurs/Hawks FRP) for (Garland, NO's 25) - Keep 4th pick

Houston trade - (#3, Green, Whitmore, FVV, FRP) for (Young)

Hawks trade - (Young, #1) for (#3, #8, #21, Green, Wmore, FVV, 3 FRP's) - Their 25 rights

NO's trade - (BI, #21, 2 NO's FRP's) for (Keldon, Collins, #1)

NO's trade Spurs one of their 25 picks with some lotto projection to get Hawks their 25 draft rights in order to control their draft after breaking down their roster by trading Young. My assumption is they value Clingan in the same tier as Sarr. Hawks pick IMO can be compared to the Lakers projection. By facilitating this trade for Houston, Spurs aid Hawks in trading Young, which could bolster the value of their still owned 26 & 27.. Where NO/Lakers 25 has similar lotto projection as Hawks 25 with Young & the #1 pick value, maybe even better lotto odds as Lakers have been a play in team, healthy. One injury ..

Yup, today, we were running short on "lets pluck the Spurs" threads so why not give them a third lottery pick on a weak draft where they already have 2, for 3 high potential, unprotected picks on loaded drafts. Great job!

Would a team rather pay to have the ability to tank a couple years and try and get a top 3 pick.. or just take the guaranteed top 3 pick?

I think Atlanta is fine leaving SAS out. Probably just send them FVV and let them push for the play-in… Reed/Jalen/Jalen/Sarr isn’t the most exciting young core, but it is not the worst one.

But maybe you could do 8th+Atlanta’s 2025 first for 3rd as a compromise? That seems about right on value?

Atlanta gets to trade Murray and tank for Bailey/CF, SAS doesn’t get three lottery picks.. Then Atlanta just has to add vets around the kids in 12 months. Or maybe they just let them grow and don’t care about the swap..

This trade makes no sense from SAs perspective
