Dallas Out: Daniel Gafford
Dallas In: Bobby Portis, #34

Memphis Out: #9, Luke Kennard
Memphis In: #23, Daniel Gafford

Milwaukee Out: #23, Bobby Portis
Milwakee In: #14, Matisse Thybulle

Portland Out: #14, #34, Matisse Thybulle
Portland In: #9, Luke Kennard

I tried to make this as simple as possible. Some other versions of the same trade:
Expanded to include THJ/Powell/Prosper for Malcolm Brogdon.
Include a couple of Memphis younger guys [Ziaire/Konchar/Rose] instead of Kennard since this likely puts Memphis in the 1st Apron.
Include a Connaughton for Konchar alteration.

Dallas: Dallas get's a 4/5 who isn't replacing the rim pressure Gafford provides but is a better defender against different schemes and teams [See Boston] while being a terrific floor spacer both from the corner 3 and above-the-break 3.

Memphis: Memphis adds a game-changing Center in Gafford who gives them vertical spacing they have never had next to Ja. Gafford is a bucket when spoon-fed at the rim and he is also an excellent rebounder and shot-blocker.

Milwaukee: The Bucks go in a different route, moving up in the draft while also acquiring a legitimate wing defender who has some upside left as a shooter [Career 36% Corner 3P%].

Portland: Moves up 5 spots in the Draft up to the Top 10.

i don't think Gafford (or portis + 34 for that matter) is worth the difference between pick 9 and 23 (ie late lotto)

I like it for Portland. They take on a few mil here, so they’ll have to easily ramp up their efforts to shave some salary for tax purposes, but they also get an extra roster spot which solves a different issue.

A little too step for me. Gafford was just traded for a bad non expiring(Holmes) and 29. His value has risen some but not enough to go from 23 to 9 with good expiring.

Kennard and a top 20 2025 1st is what my offer for Gafford would be.

Portis seems way overvalued here too.

If Dallas just needs to find a pick in the 20’s to get 9th, then I don’t see a deal here for Portland or even really Milwaukee. At 9th, you probably can get one of Carter/Dalton or go for a more raw Williams/Holland..

That sounds better than getting and having to pay Portis in 12 months.

I think someone owes Memphis a decent amount here.

Think that protection could start at 20th if you wanted it to, but it’s dropping pretty low right?

But I think if Memphis is interested in Gafford, the hopeful angle is Gafford and 2025 unprotected for 9th+Luke or whatever salary match Memphis chooses (I want Luke but wouldn’t care really)

Memphis gets their center and can hope Luka gets hurt in Olympics, but either way probably end up happy with Gafford for 2 cheap years.

Dallas can keep 9th or flip it with THJ and have successfully consolidated..

Sure something like 20/14/10.

I don't think Gafford is a primary target, he is kind of in the Poeltl range of 18-24 centers for me. His performance with the Mavs is about what I expected so I don't see a huge value increase if any with a year off his contract. I don't think we would be interested in your counter but it is better than the OP.

I have no interest in trading Gafford for Portis. Memphis seems to be overpaying. Portland and Bucks both stealing value from the other 2 teams here.

We ain’t trading a lottery pick for Gafford, that’s honestly comical. Bruh was just traded for Holmes and a late 1st which at best is neutral value.
