New York - Chicago - Miami

Assumption: Butler doesn't come to an agreement to an extension w/ Miami

New York trade: Randle, Bogdanovic, best of NYK/DET/MIL top 4 protected 2025 1st
New York receive: Butler

Miami trade: Butler
Miami receive: Lavine, 11, best of NYK/DET/MIL top 4 protected 2025 1st

Chicago trade: Lavine, 11
Chicago receive: Randle, Bogdanovic

Why for New York: add a better fitting 2nd option next to Brunson who also performs well in playoffs (if/when healthy)
Why for Chicago: Randle will help them make the playoffs like their owners wanted
Why for Miami: Stay competitive and retool w/ a lotto pick and another 1st in next year's strong draft

?Hartenstein
OG
Butler
Divicenzo
Brunson

Bam
JJJ
Lavine
Herro
Rozier

Vuc
Randle
Williams
Derozan
White

I don't see Miami doing this deal.

Chicago also says no, don't want to give up 11 or get Randle.

Too good for NYK. They got Butler and unload Randle for a FRP. Stop over valuing Julius Randle.

I think this undervalues Butler, and overvalues Bogdanovic

Butler, if healthy, is still one of the half-dozen guys with a track record of closing out wins in the playoffs. I wouldn't want to be banking on that for more than a couple of years, but he's still worth a premium.

Bogie OTOH is showing his age. The Bogie who played the last couple of seasons in DET isn't the Bogie who played in Utah. At $19M for his age 35 season, I'm not sure you're getting a guy who can still hang in the rotation in the playoffs, and that makes him overpaid and probably negative trade value.

While you might not value Randle, NY doesn't view him as a salary dump. So, please stop undervaluing Randle.

I would make the argument that NY is also taking on a risk with Butler with his age, milage, contract situation and attitude. It's a risk that NY would take for the right price as this team would have a higher ceiling than the Randle centric team. But it's not risk free.

I mean I definitely see the merits here. I also definitely hear the concerns people are talking about. For me I'd do this as NY or Chicago. I think its worth the price for both.

For Miami they have to do something else after and that makes it tricky because Herro or Rozier has to go after this and neither are super valuable as is, and with other teams knowing Miami has to move one, tougher to get value back.

Brave idea though.

Debatable that Randle is the key to winning 10 more games and being n the playoffs. The Knicks actually made it into the playoffs without Randle.

Yes the Bulls owners, based on ONE SINGLE story put making the playoffs as a 2023-24 priority over the future. You neglect to note that NOT paying any level of the luxury tax is also a Bulls ownership edict. Randle and Bogdanovic coming in for $5M MORE than Lavine and selling out the future giving up #11, while resigning both DeRozan and Williams surely gets them over a threshhold or 2.

Flawed logic on several counts to rationalize the deal

I hate this for Miami. The picks are... Okay... But getting stuck with LaVine is terrible for us. As Chuck said, what are we doing with he, Herro, and Rozier? LaVine is a bad contract and I don't feel like 1) we should accept a bad contract in a Butler trade or 2) like we're getting compensated for taking that deal.

This is just a big miss for us.

I feel like you just cut Chicago out of the deal.

Knicks send Randle, Bogi and Miami choice of a first round pick.
Miami send Butler

Butler is older, Miami doesn't want to pay him. This offer is probably better than whatever Philly or Lakers are giving you.

I could be wrong, but I feel like Riley is going to value real contributors in a deal back which is what Randle gives them. He fills a huge need in the front court next to Bam. Bogi is more so salary filler for Miami to flip later along with the pick they get from Knicks.

Rozier-Herro-Jacquez-Randle-Bam is a decent lineup until Miami figures out their next move.

Only see the Knicks doing this. Neither Randle not Lavine are as good as advertised or paid.

I'm staying away from Lavine's contract for a while if I was any GM. Let's see him be healthy for a long period of time.
