Where does DeRozan go? (Bulls rebuilding)

So the Bulls are seemingly looking to rebuild, given the Giddey trade. They only keep their pick if it’s in the top 10, so it doesn’t make sense to compete for a play in anymore.

DeMar is a free agent. The options at this point are leave via Free Agency, or via a Sign and Trade. Going the SnT route, DeMar can go to winning teams without cap space. The Bulls would get some small incentives.

What’s the best 1 or 2 options for DeMar?

1. Lakers #17 pick may be a SnT option if DLo Russell opts in

2. Kings #13 pick may be a SnT option with Barnes/Huerter+

3. Sixers can sign him out right as a free agent (Nurse + Lowry connection, assuming a KLow vet min deal).

4. GSW might be interesting as a dark horse SnT option, but can they make an attractive offer?

I figure Philly is the top candidate. I don't see PG going there. OG and Siakam are staying put. Who else are they signing?

How much do you think he signs for? He's more than a NTMLE player, but not much more, imo.

Would love to have Derozan on the Warriors. He would fit really nicely for our ageing team, and give us something really different, especially late game.

Not sure how it would look though in trade. Seems complicated at 1st glance.

Can't S&T this year's drafts picks OP. So you can take those options out.

And he's certainly not any kind of MLE player. He's likely looking at $30M plus.

Bulls reportedly offered him a 2/$80M extension.

I don’t think he’s worth that, but he’s an effective scorer, and would be an amazing 2nd or 3rd option who can get you 22/4/4 and 75 games.

I could see a Lowry or FVV like overpay offer (eg 3/$100) if there’s a bidding war. If it’s the Lakers who are hard capped, he goes for a hometown discount.

Isn’t there a scenario where a drafted player can be traded, if they haven’t signed a contract? They would be technically trading a drafted player not a pick, but you get the point.

The problem is that it's brazen tampering. If the two teams are just waiting for the league year to roll over in order to make a deal legal than it's fine to make that sort of move. A S&T involves negotiations between a player and the new team that can't (officially) happen until July - after the draft.

Correct, they get the draft rights (so the player) before they sign with a team officially. Can move more salary back that way also

After July 7th or what ever the date is this year

Wow. If he signs a deal in those neighborhoods, then I fully expect him to underperform the contract.

He's now a volume scorer on middling-at-best efficiency; slightly above league average TS because his stellar free throw rate is propping up his eFG—absolutely anemic shooting at the rim and from distance. He'll be 35 before the start of next season and is coming off the highest MPG workload of his career. I'd rather spend elsewhere, but more power to him.

Who gets the bigger contract, DeRozan or Thompson?

I'm almost positive he ends up if Philly.

Absolutely no interest in Derozen at 40 mil a year. Top Candidates:
Free agents
O. G. ( resigns with Knicks)
Miles Bridges
Tyus Jones
Isaiah Hartenstien
Gordon Hayward
Russel Westbrook
Trades:
Dejonte Murray
Jimmy Butler
Marcus Smart
Brandon Ingram
John Collins
Zach Lavine

Pick the rumor you want to believe the most. I never thought the 2/$80 was legit, unless the 2nd year wasn't guaranteed or a team option. Demar wants at least 3 years and a title possibility. I don't see the Bulls as tearing down rebuilding but shuffling to a younger, more athletic roster who can play the way Billy Donovan coaches. The post season word was, we need to win at least 10 more games and nothing is off the table.

I honestly didn't see Caruso as the first man traded, that figured to be Lavine but it's started.

It's not a bad thing if DeRozan goes for nothing, that's a $30M cap space they could play with. PHIL maybe less interest in PG because they want DeRozan for less money which they can use for other FAs. Either LA team seems like a possibility, Clippers don't have many good fitting pieces to send back, need a 3rd and/or 4th team. The Lakers could send the usual Rui, JHS, Vanderbilt but the Bulls still having Lavine just don't need DLo, especially after the Giddey trade. It may be even harder for them to find another team for their standard offer. The same applies to the Lakers wanting Lavine.

I don't see Draymont with the Bulls, if they won't give up Kuminga, then Moody and Looney aren't enough to do anything for the Bulls. Picks? Name a 3rd team.

DeRozan rejoining Pops in SAS can't be ruled out, a veteran to take pressure off of and get the ball to Wemby. The Bulls could use their 2025 pick back maybe the Keldon Jonson money since with Vassell and DeRozan get minutes and shots.

I like the idea of Philly using their cap space on DeRozan and another high end starter - like KCP. Maybe they can have enough room to bring in a starting caliber 4 who can shoot a little.

Then splitting the room exception between Batum and Oubre.

I know Detroit fans don’t like when I say it, but I give Demar 3yr110ish before I trade the 5th pick for Ingram, even with minor value coming back.

I also like Ainge offering Demar a big deal versus trading for LaVine. Chicago can still have the Minn 2025 first (or lesser of Minn/Cleve) to take Collins back as part of the trade and keep Lauri’s money open. Still makes a lot of sense to me..

Sign and trade to Golden State seems fun though. Wiggins+Payton+2025 first and end up with a second or two back?

DeRozen and Cade operate in the same space on offense and DeRozen doesn't add much on defense. He's a good player, but not sure I see the fit. Whereas BI is at least a theoretical floor spacer (need to convince him to up his frequency) and wing defender.

DeRozan should. He's clearly the better player at this point.

There's like a <10% chance that something weird happens in FA and Klay ends up with more, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Should be Derozan imo. Klay is arguably sub-MLE at this point.
