PHI/ATL: Melton, 1st for Hunter

DeAndre Hunter
For
DeAnthony Melton (S&T 2 years, 30M, 2nd year team option) + '26 1st round pick

Based on the rumored current direction of the Hawks (trading Dejounte, taking Risacher), they swap out a 3+D for a cheaper 3+D guard.

The Sixers find a way to bring in a starting caliber forward presumably after already making their move for whatever max guy they've targeted (sequencing would be key here).

Sign and trade needs to be 3 yrs. I also doubt melton is willing to take a 1 yr guarantee only. He probably gets more in FA

Melton won't take 1 year deal...
PHI will likely operate under the cap and waive bird right of all FAs.

They can keep Melton's cap hold and still have max cap space, which is the point of the deal.

I'm doubtful he gets more coming off an injury plagued season, at least year 1. Could work as 3 year with years 2 and 3 unguaranteed then. Substitute whatever terms you like though (year 1 needs to be at least 14.2M to match salary in this scenario)

If Philly is working a sign and trade for Melton, I hope Dallas is involved.

But.. off topic, I do think Morey could play over the cap as long as he finds a team willing to pay Tobias and work with him on a sign and trade.

Even if it’s a delayed deal like the Mitchell deal where it ends up having salaries added later.

I don’t think Hunter is worth an expiring roleplayer (or locked up on a nice contract) and a first.

I think this is the last type of deal PHI should be considering. Hunter makes enough to make a significant dent on the cap sheet, but not so much on the floor. I think he's a decent player, but just that: a starter on a .500 team, but a bench piece on a good team. I think Philly should be aiming higher.

From the perspective of the teams I follow (DET and TOR) I'd prefer Melton over Hunter. For Detroit, I'd consider Melton for an MLE-level deal, but would only take Hunter for pure cap space with a small incentive. For Toronto, I'd really like Melton on a NTMLE assuming Brown is declined/traded, but want no part of Hunter

At an average of 23 mil./year for Hunter. The Hawks should be giving the FRP, not the Sixers! Hard no from the Sixers.

I think Melton will sign for the MLE for a team he wants to go to

Can see Orlando offering a bloated 1+1 deal and offer him a starting role.

Yeah a Bruce Brown type deal makes sense

I think it would take a 1st to turn Hunter's contract into an impactful player.

My 4 favorite free agents for Detroit are Hartenstein, OG, Melton and Marshall. Melton and Marshall are realistic targets and they would fit like a glove next to Cade.

Hunter is a big negative player imo. His advanced stats are bad, and he is on a huge contract. I would ask for good compensation to eat his contract into pure cap space.
