Knicks get PG w/Randle

Clippers receive Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson
Knicks receive Paul George

The opt-in and trade seems like the way the rumors are trending. PG wants a four or five year max and Clips don’t want to go past three seasons. Here they get good talent on short term deals.

Knicks get PG, can retain OG and set themselves up for a legitimate title run. Really the only question would be, do the Knicks need to include draft capital to make this happen.

Used the CP to Rockets trade as a baseline.

Does PG help the title odds more than Randle + Mitchell?

I guess I don't see it.

This hardcaps knicks at the 1st apron btw. that might be an issue if they want to bring back IH and OG

I think if NY is willing that the Clips should be happy.

For sure, they would have to salary dump Bogi and in the end maybe pivot off Hartenstien if he gets too expensive.

Really? Didn’t see that one coming. Just think PG is the superior player and easier fit than Randle. Knicks were already looking at moving Mitch

Well the comparison is Mitchell's value + Randle's value vs PG13 + Min player value, right?

I think it gets more complicated than that if you’re really digging into it but even by that valuation, I’m going PG.

A sign and trade would, but if PG opts in does it still hard cap the Knicks?

I think the Knicks should be all over a PG deal, and I would include one of our 2024 1sts and the lower of NYK/MIL 24 1st to complete this deal. Does the back end of this contract scare me, it sure does. But give me a few years of:

Brunson/DDV/George/Anunoby/Hartenstein

with McBride and Hart anchoring the bench.

Easily the most talented Knicks team in a long, long time.

So if you take back a dollar over the outgoing salary it triggers a hard cap at the first apron? But if it was Bogdonovic + Randle and NY took back less money they wouldn't be hard capped?

Then its illegal for LAC. Because it would hardcap them in turn

The way around this is a 3rd team that takes salary from the Knicks allowing them to cobble together slightly over PG's money while the Clippers take slightly less.

I think we are going to see some 3rd team in deals taking on some smaller contracts for assets to grease some deals to prevent issues like this. Makes it a bit more complicated and definitely tougher on this board because so many posters are so adamant about what their team will or won't do.

But remember even good teams sometimes take on bad salary to get assets. OKC and Dallas both did it on draft night last year for instance. So its never as cut and dry as we sometimes want to make it.

Which is probably why we are seeing Utah and Detroit mentioned a lot in deals.

There are rumors that Robinson is interested in the WIZARDS...
Robinson to WIZARDS
Bojan/Randle to CLIPPERS
PG/Richards/42 to KNICKS
Tucker + 25 to HORNETS

This does nothing for the clippers unless a good amount of picks are coming back to LAC. Why would they want Mitchell and Randle to retool and not get any long term valuable assets?

Because they have Kawhi(and hopefully Harden) and have pick debts and so it makes sense to be good. And Randle and Mitchell are both good basketball players.

And remember PG controls his destiny so if he says work with me on New York and you get good pieces back or I sign with team X in free agency and you get nothing, I'd expect the Clippers to choose the good players. Wouldn't you?

then he walks for nothing and take the flexibility moves down the road. I’m not locked in even bringing Harden back because the deal he wants keeps us locked in a mediocre road with no upside. Beside those two the clippers only have 2 big contracts going past next season in Powell and Leonard. Next move would be to move Powell to a team for expiring and a pick (maybe orlando) and make moves around the edges to eliminate the 2nd apron and repeated tax stuff. Move some players around of other teams picks and hope you get some breakout players.

Does Dallas have interest in a Bogdonovic for Tim Hardaway Jr swap to complete this deal (Powell might need to be included here but NY can absorb him into a TPE).

NYK: Paul George, Dwight Powell
LAC: Julius Randle, Tim Hardaway Jr
DAL: Bojan Bogdonovic

Bogdonovic is an upgrade for Dallas, LAC gets a younger potentially cheaper player, NY gets a talent upgrade.

And opening a new arena in a town where they are second fiddle. Makes sense to be relevant
