If Paul George Leaves...

If George goes to the Spurs or Magic in free agency...
1. Would Harden stay or just try to find a way to get to Houston?
2. Would the Clippers trade Kawhi?

PG to the Spurs?
That's the first time I heard this.

It's been discussed a few times. The Spurs would be a great landing spot, but it would have to be an opt-in and trade. The Spurs could create the space for a straight signing, but they'd have to pay more assets than they should to clear the contracts.

Houston is not signing James Harden. Hell, im not even sure there is a team in the NBA outside of Clippers that would sign him.

That's kind of silly. There's a question as to for how much, for how long, and for what role, but most teams would sign him if those questions were answered to their satisfaction.

Funny you say this because I think the Pelicans actually make the most sense for Harden. Y'all been searching for a pg for years.

PG wants to go to a competing team that does not play too quickly - a team that needs a third star to get over the hump. I doubt he leaves for the Spurs (wrong timeline) or OKC / HOU / ORL as they play too fast for PG to keep up.
He is likely to demand a trade to Denver (something like PG + Tucker + BBJ for Gordon + Porter Jr + Cancar) or to Dallas (something like PG for Washington + Gafford + THjr + Exum) or to Knicks (something like PG + PJ for Randle + Bojan).
He gets to choose his destination if he opts in and the Clippers are willing to play ball and could get far less if he opts out.
I think it's more likely they trade Kawhi if PG forces a max deal with a no-trade clause on the Clippers. Kawhi won't be happy.

Wait, I’m out of the loop on this one a bit, why do you say this?

I think it’s an assumption because Kawhi took a little less “for the team” and extended, so he couldn’t get a no trade clause. He assumption is that Kawhi expects PG to do the same, but we just don’t know!

Orl plays too fast? Orlando had the 27th ranked pace of play in the NBA last year.

Can we try and get creative and keep PJ?
Gafford and Grant to LAC
THJ, Maxi, first, 2nds to Portland
PG and Reath to Dallas
Or Kuzma? Eh. Really.
Probably has to include Green or all of Dallas’ smaller contracts to get there in matching salary. But that’s fine. Prosper, Hardy have some value. Throw in more seconds to include Powell.
I know it’s silly for PJ to be what holds back a Paul George trade. So would definitely cave in if needed. Just feels like PJ shouldn’t be a sticking point for the Clippers, assuming Dallas adds enough to get a similar/better player from a third team. And Lively/PJ/PG feels pretty fun..

Meanwhile, OKC is also only ranked 8th in pace and Houston 13th. Dallas, on the other hand, is ranked 5th. NYK and Denver are indeed playing at a slow pace but I doubt PG believes he can only ‘keep up’ with the slowest teams in the league. That doesn't strike me as very plausible. Not to mention that pace really isn't the only – or even the best – metric to assess how much of an effort a player is asked to put in on the court.

I see, because you ride with narratives.

Did you watch Harden last year? He was good to great for a majority of the year.

Ballmer doesn’t seem interested in rebuilding.
Realistically, what’s the best case scenario here in a rebuild?
Leonard for the picks back and try and tank for 3 years? Doesn’t sound good.

Narratives? Wtf I am watching this guy for 15 years. Especially in Houston because im CP3 fan.
He is very good player to say the least, but very flawed player and his flaws are especially visibile in playoffs.
He is older now but still wants max/close2max money. If you give guy like him that kind of money your path to title becomes almost impossible.
3 years 100 mil? Yes ill sign him. Him over CJ MCcollum? Yes ill take it. But he is not worth the money he is getting in his next contract.

He is great for majority of most years, just not when it matters the most.

James Harden conversation makes people look absolutely silly.
Poster says no team will sign him, and then immediately says he would sign him.

Last off-season I picked the Clippers to implode and become sellers. I ate my crow batter dipped, deep fried, with a good tangy BBQ sauce.
I still think such a scenario is on the board. I think Clippers will be eager to facilitate a sign and trade.
Just as an example CP3 + assets (say Mann, picks) to NOP, McCullum + (ie Looney) to LAC, PG to Warriors.
IDK what is going on with Wiggins, but he could be on the move as well creating room.
CP3 could also be annexed to Detroit to help player/coach that team, perhaps allowed to be released half-way thru the season.
