CHA/UTA - my other Kessler idea

Charlotte trades #6, Davis Bertans ($5.25M guarantee)
Utah trades #10, #32, Walker Kessler
Charlotte adds extra shot blocking so that the defense doesn't completely die when Mark Williams leaves the game. When both are healthy, 48 minutes of rim protection at that position is hard to turn down. Charlotte should still be able to find a decent player at #10.
Utah combines a couple assets to move up if they have a target on the board, preserving roster spots for when those picks start to convey.

Utah should jump at this, but I doubt their fans will here citing draft tiers. I don't like it for the Hornets at all who need difference makers more than a guy who shares center with a player the OP wouldn't trade for a pick higher than the one they give here.

Jazz might try to take #32 out of the deal, but otherwise I think they might do it if the right guy is available at #6.

I would much rather move from 10 to 13 than from 10 to 6.
But staying at 10 is also just fine. Someone I like will be on the board at 10. I'd like one of Salaun, Williams, Holland, Carter, or Topic. One of those dudes will for almost absolute sure be there unless we have a bunch of other dudes drop. I think one of those guys will also be there at 13, so I'm guessing that the Jazz will be able to pick from 2 or 3 of them.
I see no real upside for the Jazz here as I'm not that much more excited to get anyone expected to go at 6 more than I am these guys. Plus I think Kessler is being undervalued by a fair amount here.
So, no. I don't jump at this if I'm running the Jazz. But if Sacramento wants to move up, maybe we can talk? I'm also willing to just sell pick #10 for future assets if CHA is looking to draft someone at #10.

I think the value is fine if it is 10 + Kessler, but I'd be happy to stay at 10. I think this draft is extremely flat from about 5-13 (if the board breaks how I think it will) and pur front office has said they see the lottery as extremely flat as well as 10-20 (hence runors of Utah attempting to get another top 20 pick with 29 and 32 as the base).

Agree that Utah should do this. Kessler's value has plummeted, so I dont see him returning much these days.

Is this trade possible? I thought non-fully guaranteed contracts for the next season needed to be fully guaranteed before they could be dealt?
Regardless, Utah passes. The draft is fairly flat after 5 and there isn't any reason for Utah to move off of Kessler, lump in a decently valued 2nd, and a pick only 4 later to do that.

Follow it up with Williams to ORL for more draft capital and/or young player(s)...
maybe:
ORL sends: Cole Anthony (UNC), Caleb Houstan, DEN 25 frp, #47
CHA sends: Mark Williams, Tre Mann, #32

Utah can absorb the contract into cap space, then waive it and free the cap space.

That's a very low valuation of Mark Williams, this deal is very close w/o him.

I pretty clearly prefer Kessler to #6 straight up.

Ha Ha... no that deal is not close and we aren't looking to part with Mark. OP is kind of meh, rather just stay at 6 and get my guy

I think Charlotte could get the same player -minus Knecht - at 10 as the players available at 6.
The best player expected to be on the board at 6 is Castle. I don’t see him as the right fit.
However Holland, da Silva, Saluan shoukd be there.

If Clingan is there at #6 yes, do it. If not, I pass.

As a Hornets fan, I like the OP's direction of adding big depth while also still getting a swing at a prospect. Would much prefer that approach compared to, say, simply drafting Clingan if he falls at 6. With that said, I'm not particularly high on Clingan so that might be an outlier opinion.

This makes some sense. If the Jazz think Clingan is a significant upgrade to Kessler this might work for both sides. I was assuming he would be gone at 6.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/2024-nba-mock-draft-sb-nation-writers-project-the-first-round/ar-BB1oRSKx?ocid=BingNewsSerpSorry for taking over this thread to talk about Jazz draft, but it seems a decent place given the trade. This mock looks to me like a fairly likely, worst case scenario for the Jazz. I can't imagine a draft going much worse for us. EVEN THEN The jazz still get to choose between Topic and Carter. Two options I'm very comfortable taking. I think I'm a bit higher on Carter, so I probably see him as a worst case scenario for the Jazz at #10. And I like him. He would give the Jazz a point of attack guard defender that they sorely lack. I think he is long and athletic (and energetic) enough to play SG alongside George despite being short for the position.
Making this mock draft and this trade opens up Buzelis, Williams, Salun, and Holland. I take all 4 of those guys over Carter, but I don't see the difference being that huge. I'm hoping one of those dudes falls to 10, but I think it's safer to assume a worst case scenario as this mock is doing.
