Yeah it's an interesting reminder. 4/14 lottery picks traded or waived before their rookie contracts were up. Obviously there were some extenuating circumstances with Bouknight and Primo, but they weren't exactly lighting it up before their incidents either.

but if you look more closely, there is 5-6 or more max or near max players in the lottery but only 2, maybe 3 outside of it in the 2021 class.
There's no guarantees a lotto pick will pan out but its more likely than a later pick

in addition to the ones mentioned, I could see Jalen Johnson getting a pretty sizeable extension from Atlanta, and Cam Thomas getting good money to score away on the Nets

I'm hoping we could lock down Tre Mann to a short sub-MLE deal like we did with Jeremy Lamb when we got him from OKC, especially if we don't draft another player at his position.

Kinda funny that Suggs is going to likely get over $25million for putting up 12/3/3. Nice young player and all, but Orlando is going to need to upgrade that backcourt somehow if they want to take the next step. And not sure it's super smart to max Wagner after his shot disappeared this year. Obviously they want to keep him, but I'm not sure what the rush would be if it's a max deal.

Pistons are desperate and will max cade despite the injury concerns.
Cavs? No clue. They might but he's kinda flat lined since his impressive rookie year. Obviously a good player, but he's gotta make a jump at some point to actually deserve a max.

I get the first 3. I cant imagine Giddey warranting anything significant. He's just not that good. He has a place in the NBA sure, but not in any meaningful capacity

Feels like good timing for Suggs after Holiday and White were important pieces on a title team and OKC added Caruso to the Dort and Wallace backcourt. His archetype is pretty en vogue right now

The question is whether the Bulls have any appetite for locking him into what could be a team-friendly deal if he excels as a primary ball handler.

would love to get franz and suggs on 5 yr declining contracts signed this summer...suggs around 125 ish? franz 175? would be nice but expect max...but man starting at 38 and declining would be so nice

No shot would even consider not maxing franz.

I wish Paolo would also take less than max

then would be better for both to wait till next summer...franz bets on him getting alot better to get top 15 in nba? ...magic have more cap space next summer his hold would be like 20 mill ..so magic can sign player next summer for 20 mill and still then give him max...franz takes chance on improved numbers by a lot and no injurys and 175 mill is a lot to chance ..magic have a yr to see if worth full max...kinda like maxey did

Houston has a cap space window next offseason, which a Sengun extension would kill.
