Who needs a Dort?

I laid out a bunch of arguments over on Twitter about why I think Dort is the odd man out in the Thunder guard rotation after Caruso's acquisition. He makes 17 mil, they have Cason as the heir apparent guard defender, they have Caruso now who's bigger and a better offensive player, I don't think they'll play full time small or bench Caruso or Dort ... suffice it to say, I have reasons.

IF this is true, and IF Dort is not aggregated in a larger trade: what team could use him? And what would they offer? OKC's in dire need of perimeter creators (especially with size), rebounding and good players at the 3/4 and 4/5 spots.

OKC can take back unbalanced salary; they have tons of cap space (well, with Hayward's cap hold they can function over the cap, but I'm proceeding as if they're a cap space team).

Charlotte. I would for sure move down from 6 to 12 for him, probably would offer more but idk what we even have that OKC would want that isn't a high-upside 1st.

A lot of teams would want the dorture chamber.

Is there a deal like this that works...

Dort, 12 and Future Pick(s) via OKC to Houston
3 and Future Pick(s) via OKC to Atlanta
Jeff Green, Jock Landale and 1 to OKC

Is Risacher a good fit in OKC?

I don’t think on value 12 goes back there.

Utah is a directionally weird pairing, but I'd love to have him here.

Clarkson (creation) + draft value (very unsure on what)?

if it's one of OKC's many future 1sts instead of #12, I'd still strongly think about it.

In my head, if we walked away from the draft with Dort and some pick equivalent to a 15-17 pick in this draft (late 10s to 20 in another draft?), I'd be quite ok with that return.

BroLo and #33 for Dort and the lower of OKC/Philly 2025 1st.

Bucks get a POA defending starting SG and future 1st while dropping below the 2nd apron.

Thunder get a rim protecting stretch center to pair with Chet and early 2nd to add another depth piece.

So the Bucks get the more valuable player (given contract and age) and the better pick?

I'd do Lopez for Dort. Not adding anything though and don't want anything extra. Straight up.

I mean, does OKC really want a pick? Seems Dort would be used in a consolidation trade.

I remember last year's draft when Woj mentioned Okc swapped picks with Dallas and took on Bertans, I was hoping maybe just maybe Dallas got Dort in the swap. Instead they got capsace they then turned into Holmes/Prosper. Holmes became Gafford, but the what if still intrigues me

Not entirely sure.

Lopez brings something valuable and rare to OKC. Dort is very good at what he does, but it feels like players like him are not challenging to find/develop.

Is Lopez and #23 for Dort and future 2nd seem more balanced?

Milwaukee doesn't have time to develop him. They can trade Lopez for Dort, sure, but I can't really get behind Lopez being more valuable than Dort.

A Dort/Stewart swap with the Pistons would make sense. OKC could use a big man with range and toughness who can guard multiple positions to pair with Chet. Detroit needs a 3 & D player next to Cade. I think that it would work well for both sides.

Grayson Allen for Dort and a first.

I remember thinking several times during the playoffs, "Dort is causing all sorts of problems why do they always want to trade him?"

I hate that value for OKC. Dort is one of the 5 best perimeter defenders in the league and shot 39% from 3 on medium volume (5 attempts). I'd take him over Allen 10x out of 10. Maybe there is a three way where Allen + 22 + assets from OKC get the Thunder someone they want and Phoenix gets Dort.
