Jazz / Pistons Draft Day Deal
Jazz Out: #10, #32, Better of 2027 1st [CLE/MIN]
Jazz In: #5
Detroit Out: #5
Detroit In: #10, #32, Better of 2027 1st [CLE/MIN]
Utah Jazz move up for a player on top of their Board [One of Risachere/Sarr/Buzelis/Castle/Sheppard/Knecht].
Detroit takes a chance that #10 [Holland/Walter/Salaun/Williams] has a similar ceiling as the picks at #5 as they take a more boom-or-bust prospect, pick up an early 2nd and then a 1st in 3 years with some real upside.

Eh, that's gonna be a hard pass from me. (Like my opinion matters) make it a 2025 pick, and then we can talk.

I think the 2027 pick has more variance and the new management will be there in 3 years.

How about the Jazz keep the 2024 pick and send Detroit their two 2025 picks from Cleveland and Minnesota?

Any protection on the Cle/Min picks? Regardless, both of those will be in the mid 20s. And 32 is a SRP. It’s like giving 3 quarters and expecting a dollar in return.

I wouldn't trade the better of those picks to move up. I think 10 + Kessler is about as much as I'd offer to move up to 5.

1) This is for 2027, anything can happen in 3 years. I doubt both CLE and MIN are Top 6 teams in 2027.
2) The picks are unprotected
3) Why would you expect a dollar to go from #5 to #10?

Re: Jazz / Pistons Draft Day Deal
Value is okay, but unless Sarr has fallen I don't see anyone in this draft I'd want to move up for (and then there may be a reason for the fall that I'm unaware of).
This draft sucks.
This draft sucks.
I bought a boat.

So what is the final offer? I’d almost prefer just to trade #5 for a 2025 unprotected from Utah.

I'd consider it if I had reliable intel that Carter would be there at 10.

Re: Jazz / Pistons Draft Day Deal
Utah isn't trading unprotected future picks for #5 in this draft.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

Yes. No stars, flat draft. Jazz say no for same reason.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Utah can't hang up fast enough.

Jazz can’t do that. In 2025, OKC gets Utah’s pick if it’s outside of the top 10

I'm simply not interested in moving up. I'm fine staying at 10.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Re: Jazz / Pistons Draft Day Deal
The logic in this trade is that there is a talent cut off somewhere between 5 and 10. I agree with this idea as I think the top 5/6 (Sarr, Zach, MB, Reed, Castle, and Clingy) are the only guys who i see as being anything more than bench guys.
With that being said, if Detroit is riding open on a pick 3 years from today, this team should be contracted. The Pistons need to acquire assets to help now and the future. Its acquiring teams garbage for seconds to help other teams to resign their own guys (and stay competitive) or acquire future picks (3 years out plus) that will keep the current Detroit dumpster fire going.
Detroit needs add talent to this team with Cade for now and the future.

Well, the Jazz got Williams who was near the top of my wish list. So happy we didn't move.

Wirh the Pistons taking Holland at 5, I’d have done this deal. I’d even taken Collins back in the deal too.
