WIZARDS
In:Green/O-Max/Mavs 25/Mavs 31(Unprotected)
Out:Avdija+ future SRP

They are good business partners and they seem to understand each other, they sell Avdija dearly, 2 young people +2 unprotected selections

MAVS
In: Avdija+Future SRP
Out:Green/O-Max/FRP 25 and 31

Trade 2

PISTONS
In:THJ/Raptors SRP/Wizards SRP+2 SRP Futures
Out:Grimes

He gets the expiration of Tim (Cade's good friend) who provides experience and shots, plus a lot of SRP...

MAVS
In:Grimes
Out:THJ/+4 SRP

The Mavs exhaust all their assets, but they get players around Luka's age with good value contracts and save enough to bring DJJ back...

they would also need some specialist shooter for the minimum like Fournier/Mcdermott

Deni doesnt have this type of value. He's solid, but 2 firsts (both unprotected?) and a recent first, no thanks

From a Pistons perspective…

$60M in cap space gets us 3 GOOD players, maybe 2 starters and a rotation player. That’s the default offseason.

So compare that to 2 GOOD players and 3 SRPs (post trade). What would you rather have? I’m not big on SRPs so I’d prefer to just spend our cap space on real players.

If Detroit sell cap space and an usefull player for 2nds, it would be a disgrace and it would be to continue what Weaver was doing. I would 100% check out and stop watching games if this is still what Detroit is doing.

If we are taking on a terrible player, and giving up an asset in the process, I expect a very good return. I would be disgruntled even if we get a late 1st in a deal involving THJr and Grimes.

The Detroit part looks like a classic Weaver trade, right down to the 4 SRPs. So probably a year too late for that.

Yeah, hard pass from Detroit. Grimes is the best asset in our part of the trade.

The Wizards decline... without hesitation.

The funny part is that the Wizards are also including a future pick. As long as Luka is in Dallas, it's reasonable to assume that a Wizards future pick is more valuable than a Dallas pick in 2031, so that part is a net negative for Washington. Which means the Wizards are trading Avdija for what is likely to be a single pick in the late 20's next year.

That's not even close to fair value. I'm going to post what I posted on the last bad Avdija trade proposal:

nate33 wrote:Since February, he has averaged 19/9/4 on .604 TS% while playing borderline elite defense. He's actually been producing like that most of the season, but they were playing him 27 minutes a game in the first half of the season rather than the 35 he deserves. The second half of the season demonstrated that the production was legit over 35 minutes. His per-minute production actually improved with more minutes.

And his production wasn't just empty stats. When Avdija was on the court, he had the horrific Wizards roster playing like a respectable 37-win team (going by on/off differential). When he was off, they played like a 10-win team. And Avdija is locked into the best non-rookie contract in the league that pays him just $13M a year.

Here is a per-36 minute comparison of Avdija and Mikal Bridges. Mikal Bridges was just traded for 5 FRP's, 4 of them unprotected.

Image

And here is a per-36 minute comparison of Avdija versus Scottie Barnes. Barnes just signed a max contract. Avdija will cost $32M less per season than Barnes. $32 million a year!

Image

So, no. The Wizards aren't trading Avdija for what amounts to a single FRP.

Factoring Avdija's age, contract, and the fact that he is improving, I would honestly expect the Wizards to be looking for a trade package similar to what the Knicks just gave Brooklyn for Mikal Bridges. THAT'S how far off this trade proposal is.

Everyone trying to sneak Grimes into deals where the Pistons are getting a bad contract dumped on them and no tangible draft assets...

It's hilarious how these fans want to get Deni for a box of Skittles like they're doing the Wizards a favor.

Given what I've seen, the Mavs were giving up even more value in my trade

And this is why. Because a deal like this always made sense. Now in light of the salary dumps of yesterday it feels like Detroit took less value than the market was setting. But taking on assets and giving up a low level young player in taking on salary was always logical for Detroit.

Just because our front office did it, doesn't mean it's logical. I think our recent track record as a franchise speaks to that. I hate that we sold so low on Grimes.
