Even bad teams need some decent players.

Will still be around (baring later trade I guess) when the Nets start trying again in 2026-7,

Wonder what this means for Thomas/Sharpe/the 2025 FA Plan

I feel like the 2025 cap space plan ended when they committed to the 2 year rebuild yesterday.

Given they're rebuilding, they likely had to give a little more. The guaranteed money is in line with what Cam J got.

The Nets can afford to make it a declining or U shaped deal to increase the value going forward.

If Porzingis has another injury plagued playoff run and it costs Boston, I bet that this time next year we'll see the board spammed with ideas of an expiring Porzingis + picks for Claxton.

They can probably flip him later on this deal.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Yup, very tradeable, and this is likely to be honest.

Is Claxton an above average starting center? Top 15?

I’d say for sure, towards the tail end though.

I'd more or less agree. In terms of guys who are clearly better, you've got Jokic, Embiid, Gobert, Sabonis, Bam, Chet, Wemby, Sengun...and then a bunch of guys after that are kind of a toss up based on preference and system fit.

Yes and I don’t think being ranked below 15 makes you not above average. Like a good above average starter, is a good above average starter, even if there’s 17 guys better than you.

Depends on the position and the timeline.

Hell there can be guys ranked 12th at their position, where the position is extremely thin at that time and they aren’t even an average starting level NBA player.
