Detroit: Corey Kispert, Anfernee Simons
Washington: Ausar Thompson
Portland: 2029 1st rd pick returned from Washington

Washington takes a swing at developing Thompson, who really doesn't fit with Detroit's roster. Thompson's lack of shooting can be covered in Washington if Sarr develops into a stretch 5. I see lineups with Carrington, Coulibaly, George and Sarr with Thompson being at his best surrounded by shooting.

With Detroit drafting Holland, Thompson is the odd man out. Simons allows Cade to pair with an explosive scorer in the backcourt and Kispert provides additional floor spacing. Cade/Simons/Kispert/Holland/Duran feels like it fits. This also clarifies Ivey's position as the backcourt ball handler and pairing him with Sasser, Grimes and Fontecchio off the bench should open up space for him to succeed.

Portland moves off of Simons salary opening up more minutes for Scoot/Sharpe to share the backcourt and recovers a 1st rd pick in the process.

Sorry, Detroit passes. Thompson could be an AllStar. He’s not just good on D - he is elite. I expect him to be on All D team next year. Detroit also just hired one of the best shooting coaches on the planet. I’d rather take my chances on keeping Ausar too long than giving him away too soon.

And he can play w Holland - that combo will be great defensively.

That 29 FRP will be the second best of 3 that POR has that year; our own+BOS+MIL.

POR values Simons more than that.

Not trading Ausar unless it's a crazy package.

I see the drafting of Holland and the hiring of Fred Vinson to mean the Pistons are going to play the long game on these guys and that they're playing the odds that having TWO guys that are a jumper away from being elite two-way wings doubles your chances that at least one pans out in a big way. And then you end up with the exact type of player that everyone is looking for.

Pistons made a clear statement that they're looking to prioritize taking big swings, not trade away the big swings for floor raisers.

Weaver’s seat was hot enough that he probably would’ve tried to win 30 games next year. I’ll pretend Monty cared enough that he would have tried to win as well. This is no longer the situation — we’ve admitted complete failure, Langdon has no such pressure, and our new coach is TBA.

It doesn’t look like we’re trying to compete soon, this year or next. We’re still drafting for upside, and Langdon has talked of using cap space for assets rather than win-boosting players. We shall see on that one, but in any case, trading guys on rookie deals for established guys seems to be off the table.

If this is all I can get for Ausar then I would just ride it out and hope one or both of him and Holland find their shot. Trading for an expiring Kispert that you will have to resign at market rates and having Simmons only controlled for 2 years is not very enticing imo.

I think the value is fair and if Det was ready to win they should consider it, but they are still ways away from making moves like this.

Yeah I could see an interest in Simons perhaps, but I'd want to use a different asset. Not sure on Kispert since they acquired Fontecchio to play a similar role. And I like Fontecchio more. I guess maybe if his contract demands this summer are too high but that seems unlikely?

I dont think this is close. Kispert is not good, Ausar has shown if nothing else eh can be a difference maker on D

Portland had 3 FRP in the 2029 draft and its unlikely they would have had two of them in the lottery. A pick in the mid teens, 5 years away isnt enough for Simons

Could we swap Holland instead of Ausar? Only reason is ive watched Ausar for a year, and I don't want to really watch Holland struggle his first year on offense. Just went through that with Ausar, and I'm hoping his end of season "run" of shooting in the high 20's from three is a trend.

I want to keep Holland and Ausar. They both have unlimited energy and killer D. We got the best shooting coach on the planet. Let’s let this play out.

I don’t think Simmons is a fit. The Pistons need to add a four more than adding another shooting guard. Any move with adding another shooting g guard with Grimes and Ivey around doesn’t make sense. Really need a four.

I would do this in a heartbeat. The current roster has to be the most ill-fitting team I have ever seen. It's not like the team has no talent, its that whomever the Pistons idiot owner hires, just doesn't understand that your not collecting assets, your collecting players, that make a team.

A very Weaver 2.0 start with Tragic. With this trade, there will some semblance of spacing at least.

And 2 guys that play zero defense are great fits with defensive stalwarts like Cade, Ivey, and Duren! Really "making a team" there!

It's weird that people only moan about the shooting when the team was at least as bad at defending as shooting. Why not trade your best defender for 2 more terrible defenders? Sure! Try to break some records for points allowed.

Yes but we need a three or four. We have too many guards.

We need someone who can shoot AND DEFEND. Simons is a black hole on defense, so he is a terrible fit next to Cade.
