Portland Trades
Jerami Grant F
Duop Reath C
Los Angeles Lakers Trade
Rui Hachimura F
Gabe Vincent G
2029 FRP (Top-8 Protected / Top-8 Protected / Top-8 Protected / 2 SRP)
WHY FOR PORTLAND
They cash in on Grant and get a player in Rui that fits the timeline a bit better while stockpiling some more future assets. PDX seems to want to compete so getting a rotation guy like Rui would be big - but they also manage to snag a future pick in the process.
G - Scoot Henderson / Anfernee Simons / Gabe Vincent
G - Shadeon Sharpe / Anfernee Simons / Dalano Banton / Matisse Thybulle
F - Deni Avdija / Matisse Thybulle / Rayan Rupert / Kris Murray
F - Toumari Camara / Rui Hachimura / Jabari Walker JR / Kris Murray
C - DeAndre Ayton / Robert Williams III / Donovan Clingan
WHY FOR LAL
This would take place if they wiff on bigger fish - but end of the day I think LAL 100% comes out of the summer making a big'ish move and here they get a veteran 20ppg guy who is an elite catch and shoot 3PT threat, brings athleticism and has been a plus defender in the past. He is a low tier #3, but seems to be a great compliment to LBJ and AD IMO. Reath is a sneaky nice pickup who can spread the floor and is locked into a super cheap deal for 3 years. They also get to dump Gabe.
G - Chris Paul [MLE] / Austin Reaves / D'Angelo Russell / Jalen Hood-Schifino
G - D'Angelo Russell / Austin Reaves / Bronny James / Jalen Hood-Schifino
F - Jerami Grant / Dalton Knetch / Taurean Prince / Maxwell Lewis
F - LeBron James / Jarred Vanderbilt / Taurean Prince
C - Anthony Davis / Duop Reath / Wood or Hayes [Whomever Opts In]

Lakers aren't tying up a 1st for 3 years for Grant. Make it Top 4 protected for 1 year and then 2 2nds.

I like it personally. Would be also fine with weaker protections.

Re: Portland / LAL
This hard caps LA at he first apron, and I think they’d end up $10m over the first apron, accounting for Knecht, Bronnie, and say, Christie. Let alone considering a Chris Paul signing.
If Russell opts out and leaves, they’d be awful close.

Yeah.. Rui is at least playable but I don’t think Portland needs or wants him. Value isn’t horrific though
Somewhere trying not to offend Texas Chuck.

I simply dont think PDX will move Grant without a rotation worthy guy coming back. Rui fits that bill, is not young but also not old and would be a nice stopgap. Again, I hope PDX moves Grant - but I also think they want to compete. Rui helps in that arena.
For example - if PHI swings and misses in FA I dont think PDX would take a FRP and the cap savings for Grant. They will want a rotation guy to, again, ensure the team competes and continues to make revenue.

Ya - I feel this. What about -
2029 FRP Top-4 Protected -> If it doesnt convey it turns into 2030 FRP Swap Option Top-4 Protected + 2 SRP

I personally don’t want a stop gap. Either find a long term replacement or focus on picks in hopes of finding a long term replacement. I’m also thinking 1 more year of tanking for a chance at a star, so a stop gap that gets wins now and then leaves is not great.

Re: Portland / LAL
Doesn't LA need more perimeter help than another big? I think the value is more than fair, just not sure about the target for LA.

Grant is more of a perimeter guy than a big. He has the mobility to defend either forward position.
