Dlo Opts In......Now What?

Well Dlo has chosen to opt in at about 19m.....now what do the Lakers do?
What teams may want him?
He was clearly our 3rd best guy in the reg season, but he has troubles vs Den
He was fine vs Memphis and GS and even won us a game in Memphis basically in 2022
Also dont like 2 unatheltic thinner guards in Reaves and Dlo together
Orlando is the one that comes to mind if they strike out on others. Get to test him out for a year for cheap. Crazy that Cole Anthony will be making 13m (negative deal). Something around the fraemwork of WCJ and Cole Anthony for Dlo and Wood/Hayes? Maybe we add a swap or JHS, but not a 1st.
The other one is more out there:
Clippers in a PG deal
Dlo, Rui, 2 1sts unprotected, 2 swaps, JHS, and if they want Vando (or not to save on luxury tax)
Unsure if thats enough, but a framework

They win the title next year. DLO/Bronny/Reaves/Bron Sr./AD = 98-0

Lakers can trade two first? If so think PG13 framework pretty straight forward
Lakers get:
PG13
Clippers:
D-Lo
Cam Johnson
Rui
Picks
Nets:
Tucker
Vincent
JHS
pick swap

Less sexy but the idea above could work for Lavine lol

From the outside it looks like Lakers need a big man, a wing, and more athleticism in the backcourt.
I would be shocked if the Clippers are willing to deal with Lakers.
Lavine is overpaid and injury prone.
Maybe find a way to trade DLo + JHS + FRP for Kessler+Sexton? Lakers could take off the 1-4 protection for the '27 FRP they already owe Utah.
DLo + SRPs to Brooklyn for Finney-Smith?
DLo for Wendell Carter Jr assuming Orlando acquires another big thru FA or trade.
DLo for Bruce Brown although I don't believe the Raps need anymore guards after signing Quickley and drafting Walter.

Clippers and lakers already traded in the lebron era. If they are competing against the lakers they give George the money he wants.
Dlo trade ideas solid. I’m a firm believer AD is 5 though. Probably pass on magic deal.

I think DLo/Rui/JHS for Lavine works
Bulls could even buyout DLo, or bring him off the bench for now. If there were any interest in DLo we could involve a 3rd team
Lakers roll the dice-Lavine could be a super-elite 3rd option for LBJ and AD

Garland, Niang, Jerome for Rui, Russell, Knecht, Wood, and Vanderbilt. Maybe a framework like this with some picks moving.

Clearly, ORL didn’t want DLo or they would have simply signed him…certainly not sending WCJ (or anything) for a guy that wanted to test the FA waters and didn’t get any callbacks from cap teams….super talented guy who’d be a perfect fit in ORL on paper, but just too many boneheaded decisions and weak playoff performances in his career. He’s actually best in LAL with a strong vet leader in LBJ - who at least has a chance of keeping him on the straight and narrow (or threatening to give his starting spot to Bronny

)

0% chance that Ballmer's ego would allow the Clippers to trade PG13 to the Lakers. 0% chance.

It would have been prior to contact D'Angelo prior to his opt out, so if you want the Magic (or any other team) tampering that's certainly a decision. Secondly, remember when D'Angelo Russell wouldn't settle for less than $30M/year last offseason because that's what he got paid on his previous deal? He ended up settling for just over that on a 2 year deal. FA contracts don't always end up being what you think they were. Absolutely ZERO guarantees his AAV would have been anywhere near what it is in the last year of the contract. You could probably stand to argue that the MLE ($12.9M) was his floor so max a 4 year, ~$52M was probably the most amount of money he would get.

Player Agents are most certainly testing the waters prior to direct contact dates...and I'd guess the money isn't the issue with DLo's league-wide appeal...I think same thing happened with Monk, despite the public display of loyalty and tearful joyful return to SAC.

This deal has the Clippers aggregating salaries, so they’d create a hard cap at then2nd apron, so they’d on,y have $17m or so, maximum, to offer James Harden. I think they’d say no based solely on that.

I think they'll keep DLO since it's hard to find someone that replaces his regular season production.
But if they deal him: UTA (Sexton/Kessler), MEM (Smart), BKN (Cam J. or DFS) could be viable options

First thing for the Lakers is can Gabe Vincent and Vanderbilt come back healthy.
Forget the starting lineup - but this team was designed with Russell being a middle of the rotation innings eater to take regular season pressure off James/Davis. But Vincent was supposed to be the 3 and D guard to close out games. To that extent, not having Vando all season hurt as well.
One interesting thing, and I doubt this happens, but if Lebron signed a 1+1 for 30Mm per, the Lakers would have access to the full MLE. I’m not sure if there is a player out there that Lebron will find worthy of taking the pay cut, but we have seen older stars do this before.
As it stands in LA
Russell/Reaves/Vando/James/Davis
Vincent/Kencht/Rui

And negotiating deals prior to them opting out would be tampering, and if a team failed to report the agent tampering than they would be considered to have tampered as well. I think the bigger issue is the amount of cap space from contenders being rather limited this offseason. Let's assume for 1 second that the MLE ($12.9M/year) is Russell's contract floor. The only teams with cap space that have a winning record last year were Philadelphia, Orlando, and Oklahoma City. Philadelphia seems more interested in a wing to pair with Maxey and Embiid, and OKC's fit with Shai, Caruso, Wallace, and the rest of the roster seems questionable at best. So again, it pretty much limits Orlando as the only team that
could give him more than the MLE, and they're probably more interested in a wing like Paul George or Klay Thompson.

With Russell opting in, I still go Russell and salary for CJM. Could be Rui. Could be Russell, Vincent, JHS.
Something like that. Easy to match, doesn’t cost the future firsts. Probably costs a stack of 2nds.

He’s getting traded, 0 doubt in my mind. I’d like to see some sort of lakers package involving dlo for ayton or Lauri.
