Cavs: Garland and Niang

Portland: Avdija and Grant

Cavs upgrade their wings and add size and versatility

Portland gets an all star point guard to build around.

I have to believe one of Scoot or Simons would need to go in this deal from the Portland side unless they have more moves to make.

Can probably add BKN in and send some framework of Thuybulle and Scoot for Johnson.

Or if Blazers prefer Grant to Johnson

Garland, Jerome, and Niang
Johnson, Williams, and Advija

Scoot, Thuybulle, Williams, Advija
Garland, Niang, and Jerome

Johnson
Scoot and Thuybulle

I know there are Cavs fans who want a Garland trade now, but I just don't think that's the direction the Cavs are going to go in. Also, this deal is putting a lot of faith in two months of performance from Deni. If he can't function as a secondary ball handler in the playoffs, the Cavs really don't a guy who can on the roster, and that's going to lead to Mitchell getting blitzed or trapped in the playoffs.

I'd only trade him if he asked out, but if he does, you really need to shop for good options.

Portland's not going to trade Avdija (nor can they yet) and given our current backcourt, we have no need for Garland. If the Cavs were interested in Grant, I could see a scenario where the Blazers play a role as a third party in a Garland trade to route Grant to Cleveland for future assets and filler, but the trade as its proposed is DOA.

Pass for Portland. Too many guards. Garland is also the type of player you add to a good team to make them better, but a bad team to make them a treadmill team. Avdija is a better fit for the Blazers direction.

Why is Portland suddenly having to add Thybulle and Scoot to get a 28yo Johnson? None of these proposals make any sense for a rebuilding team.

It is tremendously unlikely that PDX moves Deni this summer after trading for him.

Not speaking to the value of the deal, although I think it leans Cleveland slightly, but I don't see any chance Portland would trade for Garland one year removed from drafting Scoot.

I don't see why Portland would want Garland or Niang. They aren't giving up on Scoot after one season, and Niang, while a nice player, makes absolutely no sense for Portland's roster or their rebuild plans.

Is the point here that Portland really wants to get rid of Grant? Pretty sure Portland's FO doesn't see Grant like that. They will wait until an opportunity comes along that makes sense for the roster long term.
