As usual, feels a bit high. Not crazy though.

Good defender. Can make open shots. Very little offense outside of very open 3's. Can work as a 5th starter with enough talent around him.

Still kind of young but I don't see that much upside from where he is. His offensive skill level is pretty far away from being able to have even a medium usage role on offense.

This could turn out to be a great deal for the Bulls.

Or it could be incredibly awful.

I like my chances to be right.

I think the downside risk is low. It averages $18M per year. Assuming it is an standard ascending contract with 8% raises, its something like
$15.2 + 15.6 + 18 + 19.4 + 20.8

With the salary cap increasing 10% per year it will be less than 10% of the cap over the 5 years -- backup money

40% from 3
Decent defender

Feels right. He's tradable if bulls decide to go a different direction

He's a better than decent defender.

Enough production to get him his big first contract.

No clear way to know if it’s an overpay or a bargain.

That's still starter money. 4th-5th starter money but starter money (though I guess it depends on whether you've got a couple really expensive stars or a more balanced payroll).

Thankful for this, was worried Charlotte would throw him a bag

The length is the thing here. If he hits, wow the Bulls did great and this becomes a huge value contract for them. But if he doesn't, its one of those deals that just clogs your cap. I get as a percentage of the cap its not big, but in this new apron world, bad money of any kind really hurts more than ever.

But worth the gamble at this AAV even though I'm not really bullish on this player at all.

I always go this route, but if this is front loaded.. this is going to be a really good contract in 2.5 years whether Williams develops or not.

If there’s a player option, I like it less for Chicago on whatever way they broke down the money.

I think it’s more that Patrick has earned so far, so it’s a good deal for him but can easily see him outplaying it.

I would agree here. I doubt this ever turns into a bad deal and it will be easy to get off of. Right now the league places a huge premium on big wings who can defend 3 positions while also providing floor spacing. Williams can do that.

Health/availability will be the main question marks moving forward on if this deal is bad or not.

Miss games + no progression in stats/offense = bad contract
Healthy OR progression on offense = decent deal
Healthy and progression on offense = steal

OG Anunoby is the better version of what Patrick Williams is, with the same durability questions. Williams deal is 42% less than Anunoby's.

In short, can Williams give you 75% of Anunoby's production at 42% of the cost.

I think comparing him to OG is a stretch. A (healthy) OG is going to be in every closing line up of any play-off team, guarding the other team's best player. PWill is likely a 5th starter/bench piece, and closes games if match-ups call for it.

I'd say PWill is 75% of KCP or equivalent

Probably the best contract on the Bulls roster. No notes.

Yeah seems like a solid move by Chicago. Small enough that it won’t cripple you if it goes wrong and a good possibility it turns into a value deal.
