HOU - GS

Post#1 » by LarsV8 » Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:04 am

Chris Paul

for

Tate, Landale, Jeff Green.

Houston gets a nice backup PG, who can help mentor Reed Sheppard.

Golden State cuts some salary to lessen tax burden.

The problem with this trade is it limits Houston's trade options to big contracts only.
Having smaller contracts like Tate, Landale and Jeff Green allows them to make a trade/trades anywhere in the $5-30 M range.
Having CP and Dillon Brooks as the only tradeable contracts limits your options.

This adds a ton of salary to GSW not cuts it. They would simply waive Paul for $0 over taking on a bunch of flotsam none of which they would want.

Correct.

Also, if Houston wants CP3 as a mentor they can just sign him (for way less than $30M) after GS waives him.

I don't know what the appetite for Brooks in GS is, but I'd much rather see him go instead. We have 3 guys who need to play his position and get minutes. I like Landale/Tate/Green riding the pine/spot minutes more than Brooks eating 30+ mpg in front of our young core.

Brooks might take minutes but his attitude has inspired them. Eason especially.

By mentor, do you mean to take all of his minutes? Short of Fred having a season-ending injury, I don't see where the minutes would come from. Also would be blown away if CP3 was willing to play for Tilman.

I agree, and I won't forget that he was the guy to step up for Jalen Green after DeRozen clobbered him. If he's ok cashing his checks and playing less, I'm not mad about him staying. I just don't think he'll be happy playing less, and if he doesn't play less, our growth will suffer for it. Maybe we can afford to be patient... but I think the coming onslaught of extensions and pay raises is going to is going to put pressure on us to contend faster than another year and a half of Brooks will allow.

I'd be OK with this for GS, however it's not my money and if Lacob and co. don't want the financial implications, I can see them not being interested.

I think Tate can be good, he's just had injury trouble and then hasn't been able to get back to it in ouston, especially with other young guys coming in and creating a log jam of sorts. I also really like Londale.

If he's eating those minutes then it's for a reason. I don't want to force Ime's hand when if he doesn't think guys are ready.

That isn't crazy, but I disagree.

Amen/Cam/Tari might mean we lose a couple games due to mistakes... we aren't going to the finals next season but we'll be pushing to get into the playoffs with or without Brooks.

We'll be in much better shape, long term, if those guys get more minutes next season. Even without Brooks, we're spreading playing time pretty thin. Unless you think Amen is close to being ready for backup PG duty, and I do not. If Adams can't play like Adams that opens up some time for Jabari at 5/Tari 4, but I expect he'll be the Steven Adams before injury or similar. Minutes behind Jalen Green got tighter too, with Sheppard being the third overall pick and a combo guard vs pure point. I have a feeling we bring back Holiday or another vet pg, there won't be tons of time at backup pg for Sheppard.

That is a veteran move I support, as we look lost without FredVV out there.

We would do well to see if AJ Griffin can get his head right. If, out of Amen, Cam, Tari, AJ Griffin, none of the above deserve big minutes... then none of this matters because our rebuild has failed and our ceiling as a franchise is being something like the Kings. Hyperbole but you get what I'm saying.
