Paul George to Cleveland

Post#1 » by bgrep14 » Sun Jun 30, 2024 4:25 pm

Guy is a pretty perfect fit for the Cavs needs. If he chooses to leave LAC and would be willing to play in Cleveland would the Clippers accept a trade around Garland and Niang? What would be an acceptable offer for Paul George for a S&T?

Well he's taking 3 meetings and the Cavs aren't one of those teams. And he's a free agent so before you even get to satisfying the Clippers you have to talk PG into it. And remember he wanted to go to GSW and GSW thought they had a deal done multiple times that the Clippers backed out of.

I don't really see this one. He'd be a good add. But doesn't sound like he has them on his list.

The hard part is that LA would be hard capped at the second apron if they sign and traded PG away and got a player in return (as opposed to signing and trading him out into cap space).

So, add Garland and Niang to the books in LA, and they can’t reasonably make Harden an offer to stay. So really, it’d be like trading PG and Harden for Garland and Ning, and it’s just not likely.

Plus, PG would have to agree to go to Cleveland, and I’m not sure he would, based on his wanting to stay on the west coast?

You're putting a lot of faith in PG's health over the next 4 years. He'll finish that contract when he's 37.

That aside, my read is the Clippers get one more opportunity to offer a max deal or he's just going to sign elsewhere.

Does he really want to stay on the West Coast? He is meeting with Orlando, Philly and LAC. Only one of them is on the West Coast.

all things being equal he probably prefers to stay on the west coast, but all things are often not equal and this gives him leverage

Clips won’t get outbid. They can offer more $ than any other team, have far more motivations to do so and have the richest owner in the entire league. Plus PG wants to stay in Los Angeles due to personal and family reasons.

Clips are calling his bluff. Let’s see is Orlando or Philly are really willing to offer a max 4yr deal. If they are, PG will get the same from LAC and it will be a gigantic waste of time. If not, Clips will sign him for the $150M / 3yr they previously offered.

When the dust settles PG will remain a Clipper, hopefully without a no-trade clause.

Yeah, I don't know. It sounds like he plans on meeting the Clippers first. I think they offer it to him then, or maybe they won't get a chance to match. If he really wants to stay in L.A., maybe he gives them a chance.

Every report that has anyone sourced close to him says that he prefers to stay out west. It’s just that no one out west really has cap space for a max. :dontknow:

He is LA born and bred. He has a solid, ready to go team with the Clips. He has a mother in a wheelchair that can watch his games live. His homes are in LA. His podcast benefits from being in LA. He knows he would be hated for just bailing on his home team.

There is zero chance that PG leaves for Florida or Philadelphia unless he has no option to stay, at his lofty price.

PG is just pandering to force Ballmer to pony up the most cash for his final contract.
