HOU/NYK broken C swap

Post#1 » by nykballa2k4 » Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:33 pm

Knicks trade Mitchell Robinson to Houston for Stephen Adams and 2 SRP (whichever Rockets feel are least in value)

Knicks rationale swapping out Mitch for another enforcer type. Adams would probably have gone full WWE on Embiid for the leg pull stunt, so a little bit of deterrence there. Adams is older, over 30, who knows how many more seasons he has in him, but Knicks have a couple bigs in the pipeline. This opens the door to being a 2nd apron team (the main reason for the deal) and allows Knicks to retain iHart and some of the bit players (Burks, Precious) also leaves room to sign Rokas (euro stash pg). SRPs included just help Knicks with how they move during future drafts it seems.

Rockets get a younger, better C. Robinson has played in more games than Adams over the past few years so he will clearly be a difference maker. Knicks with Robinson have traditionally played well against Jokic and other true C's. Small time gamble on a DOPY candidate (bargain basement Gobert).

Houston looking to be a max cap space team in 2025, don't want to take back longer deals.

I don't think this makes a ton of sense for NYK unless they can find a way to loop it into the bridges trade to avoid being hard capped at the first apron so they can bring back Hartenstein but based on quick maths Bogdonovic+Jeffries+a Mitch for Adams swap is ~$100k short of being enough

His deal is small enough next year that even if this trade goes poorly they can get off of it if they need to imo, wouldn't be too caught up on that

What date to salaries officially increase/decrease? Robinson has the de-escalation.

I wonder if we can include Diakite to a separate team (with cash considerations)

Don't like it for Houston. Either Adams is the screen setting brick wall, offensive rebounding machine of old, or we get rid of him when his contract is up.

Don't want to take on Mitchell and his inability to stay healthy in his mid 20's. Adams didn't miss any time before his singular knee injury failed to heal without surgery. If Adams is a dud, I'm not scrambling to make a move with Landale on the roster. Dude can play.
