That’s a lot of money for a guy who wasn’t a bonafide rotation player last year

wow. I like Christie, but seems pricey for a guy who wasnt part of their rotation and is still not guaranteed to be a part of it next year (if Dlo and Dinwiddie return). He's a contract to trade, but teams are gonna see him as negative money if he's buried on LA's bench.

Rfa. Can sign him to his contract last and take advantage of his cap hold. Lose that chance if a team offers him a deal.

Not if you just let him walk.

I think they giving up the idea of opening the full MLE.

Maybe this is the kind of talent that would get Lebron to take less money.

This doesn't help for a variety of reasons
1. LA still over the cap regardless of his cap hold or real deal
2. Match clock doesn't start until moratorium ends in about a week
3. No one was offering him this

Only if they want to use cap space. But the Lakers are way over the cap (after LeBron re-signing).
I don't think Cap hold matters when you are trying to dodge the aprons.

1.Over the cap isn’t the problem. Which apron you over when you execute the trade is.
2. This more with future trades in mind.
3. Not about somebody offering this amount. Any offer will make them have to rush their trades through.

From my understanding , lakers can make a trade as a first apron team. Sign him last and go to the season as a second apron team.

No, you can't. If you make a trade as a first apron team (getting more money), you become hard-capped in the first apron.
Now, the apron dodging just got around 7M more complicated.

Nope. If a team makes any transaction that would be barred for going over an apron level, they are hard capped to prevent them from going over the apron.

Hard to see Lebron take ANOTHER $8m less to stay under the apron so La can use the full MLE.
