Not a bad idea.

Presti is really good at this game.

Wiggins is going to regret signing that deal, but it's hard to turn down your first bag.

best news of the offseason as a Thunder. Certainly Presti underpaid a bit by doing them a favor declining their options

For sure, Presti bought himself a lower per-year number on the long-term deal by sacrificing the one remaining year where they could have paid them peanuts. And they can afford to do this kind of thing because they've managed their cap so well.

But it seems like a win-win. Wiggins and Joe get to lock in life-changing money a year early and the Thunder lock up two rotation pieces long term on what will soon look like below-market deals.

4/$45m is fair for Wiggins

Remember Thunder could have just picked up his $2m option, so this is really 4/$45m.

Fair - looking at the AAV for comparison's sake should really just be new money v. new years, so it's more like 4/45 for Wiggins ($11.25M AAV) and 3/46 for Joe ($15.33M AAV).

I wonder if Presti front-loaded these contracts? If he did these could look even better down the line.

It's a year too long from the player's perspective. He'll be well below the tax MLE in that 4th year.

Presti may be a little short on balls, but he’s flush in brains and long-term planning. Jealous.

If you do descending structure, how useful is a team option really?

Doing the same exact thing in 3-4 years once one develops into a starting level player..

“Can keep you for 9 million this year or we can work out a new….”

Just looking at Spotrac.. Wiggins only makes 8 mil at age 30… whatever team he is on is going to be able to offer him 3yr42-45 instead of 1yr8.. Joe making only 11.3 and could easily be worth 20 million in 4 years..

Good point actually, that seems to be the Presti special.

Damn Glenn Rivers.

Refused to play Joe, so pushed Morey to waive him.

Like that kid a lot and good for him getting that bag.

It is very valuable. It gives the team full leverage over the player.

The player is likely going to be under compensated, thus willing to take another extension where he is under compensated to make up for the pay gap. See Mo Wagner this off-season.
