Tobias entirely disappeared last playoffs. But he knew he was gone and that can impact players. Before then he was just a perfect 4th starter cast as a third starter. I think this is a great contract although much like Portland going after Deni, I question the direction.

Glad he only got two years

He'll be fine as a talent upgrade on the roster for a short time

Tobias not being a playoff performer really doesn’t factor into it for us the next two years.

He’s a decent fit for us, he was a good culture guy the last time he was here, and we’ll, let’s face it, still be pretty bad heading into next years lottery.

I’m okay with it.

Yeah, for two years - I don’t think this number matters much. It’s what Detroit wanted to do and I’m surprised they didn’t need to hit 30per year to get him to take only 2 years.

He’s a good vet and locker room guy from everything I’ve seen. He’s an upgrade, but he isn’t going to stop a tank.

Always seemed like exactly what they wanted.

Really thought they were going to pull Miles Bridges this summer.

Hate it. I used to blame Weaver, but the moves we made the last couple of weeks are exactly what we've been doing since Gores bought the team. Lavine will be a Pistons before the weekend.

They still can, right? Not saying they want to..

Even with THJ, Tobias, Holland and not renouncing Simone.. They still have 25-30 mil in cap space..

Yeah he seems kinda perfect for a team in Detroit's stage of a rebuild. He can help bring along the young guys and his skillset will help take pressure off them, but he's not good enough to make a material difference in terms of W-L

I suppose, but the sense we have is that he wants to stay in CLT and we want to keep him, but we have a budget and aren't going over it. I would be surprised if our budget is less than what DET could now offer.

I also don't think he'll go somewhere where he's not a virtually guaranteed starter, and I doubt DET promises him a starting gig with their current roster situation and franchise goals.

The best news is the 2 year term

Also, it's big enough that we won't be forced to make a second overpay just to get to the salary floor

But going into the off-season with $60M in cap space, and coming out with Tobias, THJ and 3 SRPs is at best a "passing grade" of D for the off-season. There's still time and cap space to improve the score, but most of the targets that would have added real value to DET are already off the table.

We need actual NBA vets, which Harris and THJ are, but this does not inspire confidence in the direction we are going. Would rather have had Miles Bridges.

Yeah, the offseason has played out well for Charlotte to keep him (George and Harris ending up where they are, Toronto staying over the cap, even OKC going for a five instead of a four)

Still could see Dallas calling about a sign and trade to pair Bridges and PJ again. But not many like that idea. And there’s still some other teams with cap space..

But does look good for Charlotte to keep him, hope for a bounce back and no off court issues.

Remaining money might be better used to absorb contracts

No way they sign Bridges

We already got Harris, Holland, Ausar and Fontecchio

If Detroit is willing to take the PR hit and offer a deal to Bridges starting at $25M (equivalent to Tobias) then Miles would definitely start -- the only player on Detroit's roster who provides more on-court value is Cade

However, I never thought DET going after Bridges was realistic

That would be really interesting. CLT was stuck wondering what to do when we had both of them, but that when they are playing along two stars like Luka and KI that could be a pretty special supporting cast.
