Golden State trades: Klay Thompson (S&T 3 years $75M)

Why? Dallas gets a deadeye shooter with championship experience to compliment Luka/Kyrie

Luka/Exum

Golden State gets 2 rotation guys and takes a flier on OMP developing into a plus wing defender

I mean this is as reasonable as anything depending on what the money needs to be.

True. It's helpful that Dallas has a bunch of small and midsize contracts that can be mixed and matched depending on what the final # needs to be.

Kleber and some combo of Green/Grimes/OMP/Powell/Exum for Klay is the best we can hope for at this point IMO.

Probably Klay for the THJ trade exception.

The exception, bi annual and the NTMLE probably gets you players on the same level as Kleber, Green and OMP imo

I don't trust our FO to actually use the exception tbh.

I dont think this version of Klay deserves that contract or warrants including Omax

In the Lux tax money situation they were in, no. Now that they got the $$$ reduced, doubt it’s an issue imo

Could they pull something like Klay S&T into the TPE then as part of that facilitation something like Payton for Green?

GSW comes out with a large TPE to shop around + a young 3/D guy that seems like a system fit.
DAL gets their guy in Klay but has to take on the perennially injured Payton for Green.

Or would GSW rather just do Green + Kleber + OMP?

I don't know what kind of contract he's "worth", but with the other moves I'm fine with moving out some guys to pay him an amount where he feels respected. I think Dallas does want to fit him into the THJ exception, but if you need to pay more, I'm okay with it.

Into the thj exception with a 2nd seems best for all partys. But still think he goes to LA so he can play with his boat and smoke some ganja

Can the Lakers not just offer Rui and Vando for Klay, give Klay 25 million?

For the Warriors it kicks the can down the road to find another trade and hold the salary spots while getting some depth.

I'd be fine trading Klay to Dallas if he thinks that's the best place for him to get paid and try and win a championship.

I would not help the Lakers get him unless they were offering us a wild overpay.

Im not sure Dallas can guarantee a starting position (a role playing defensive FC helped the team thrive last year) whereas the Lakers can. Trade offers will be similar level players (Rui/Green) so it comes down to Klay's decision, and ill be surprised if he decides to leave Cali and possibly come off the bench for Dallas or stay home and start for LA

As a Warriors fan I'm okay assisting Klay get to wherever he wants to go (including the Lakers) as long as it does not negatively effect the Warriors cap or asset situation. I'd prefer a pick of some kind over players but thats just cause I think we should be rebuilding (either for a summer of '25 sprint or longer term). Dallas has plenty to work with in order to get something done, and I'm okay with just about any of it.

I'd prefer to get a future pick over player value, but beggars can't be choosers... or at least they shouldn't be.


I'm operating under the assumption that someone like Kleber could be dealt to a contender for non-negative salary and a real 2nd rd pick at the trade deadline.

One note, is that Kleber + Green may be too much salary and will put us very close to the luxury tax, which we should be avoiding since we're not a playoff team. Perhaps if DAL uses their TPE to absorb GP2 or Looney, then that would work.
