Boston gets W. Kessler

Utah gets J. Springer, 2025 and 2027 1sts unprotected, and a 2031 1st top 1 protected

Brad Stevens has been a very aggressive and forward thinking GM, and while the thought has been that there are no more cards to play, that's not necessarily the case. This may be an overpay but it could be worth it. Kessler actually makes less than Springer this coming year and Boston could let Tillman walk with no regrets. Kessler provides them with a real frontcourt solution now and into the future. They need someone like this now while their window is open, and with Horford aging and KP's injury woes. Fast forward 2 years, Kessler is up for a new contract but KP and Al are gone and off the books. I see this as a real solution for Boston.

For Utah, for whatever reason Kessler is reported to be available. The 25 pick is unlikely to have much value and the 27 pick probably won't either. Who knows what 2031 has in store but this is the lure. Is this enough?

Walker Kessler is not worth three 1st rounders, what the hell is happening.

Holy smokes. Kessler might fetch one of those picks in trade. Unprotected picks are rarely traded for non star players.

I don't disagree, but I believe if he is indeed on the market, there will be no shortage of interest.

Yes, but we saw what the market can be with Bridges. Kessler is a lesser player, but look how he could help a Boston team who already has there whole team locked up.

We saw what the market was for one individual player in Bridges that plays a premium position and is a borderline all star. That market just doesn't get applied to every player that is up for trade, especially for offensively challenged traditional centers that have not been held in high demand for some time now. The Knicks overpaid for a player does not mean every player's trade value has risen.

I agree, but it's going to be very difficult for Boston, in their situation, to solve their frontcourt issue now and going forward. At about 2.5 mil next year and under 5 mil the year after, I would think just about every team in the league would have interest in Kessler. If it were just the 25 and 27 picks, those likely late first round picks wouldn't be enough, at least I don't think. What is a deal that Utah would accept from Boston that another team wouldn't beat, especially considering that Boston may not have an opportunity like this again?

This is way too much for Kessler.

Given how low value near-term Boston 1sts look it may take two for Kessler where another team would only need to offer one. The extra 2031 1st is overkill.

Boston likes to have every player able to pass and shot even at the five spot. That was their formula to winning it all. I think they will be just fine for at least another year with Kornet and Tillman filling in behind Horford and KP. There are good centers late in almost every draft. Kessler is not the style of center most teams really want so I disagree with your assessment that he is going to be in high demand and able to fetch anything close to this. Can he fetch a 1st, yes...can he fetch much more...not likely.

I dont mind Kessler, but he doesnt fit what we like to do on offence, which is 5 out. If the price was right, sure you might consider it but 2.5 1sts is too high an opportunity cost for future deals

Edit: Misread 2031 and thought it was a swap, makes the deal even worse that its 3 1sts straight up

like others I don't see the fit. And I don't think Stephens thinks it is an issue or Flip would have been the pick at 30.

Yeah valuation for Kessler is way off. One first would do it. And even then I don’t love it.

i would rather bet on Springer growth than give up 3 FRPs for Kessler
C's just signed Kornet & Queta as 3rd and 4th options at center position
