Okay Cleveland you got this most important thing done. Now go improve your team and try and compete in an improving East. You cannot just run this back.

Awesome! Now they can trade Garland.

Yes, literally they can......
IT would be a terrible idea. They aren't good enough. Two small scoring guards, 2 centers, and a hope and a prayer everywhere else isn't really a great team construction. Unless the goal is first round exit. But seems silly to have that kind of talent and having spent so many assets to get here, to just be content with that.

They weren't a first round out last season and Allen missed the last three games of that series.

Allen should be moved. Garland’s value can be improved next year but Allen’s value will never be higher, and slotting Mobley as a stretch 4 for the 4th straight year is insanity.

I said it elsewhere, but how many games have we actually seen this core play together? They have the talent, it's really a question of whether or not the coaching change can fit the pieces together better, and most importantly, can everyone stay healthy?

Cleveland will be slotted no higher than 5th in the East to start the season. That is what people are referring to when they call Cleveland a first round team.

I agree with this. We need a wing who can score and the Mobley's development has been terrible with both big men.

Again, they were the 4th seed the last two seasons and I think their starters played all of 20 regular season games together last year. If the front office wants to see how these guys do under Atkinson, then that's what's going to happen.

It sure sounded to me yesterday that Atkinson plans on running back, based on the presser.

@jbk, they can keep the core 4 to see how that looks under a new coach, but they absolutely should address the wing, no? I'm not out here posting Garland or Allen trades(though I'm open to them if it made sense), but I think they can shuffle their wings around and get better fits. Too much overlap and not enough defensive ability.

From Mitchell's perspective, this deal essentially locks him into the Cavs/this contract for 3 more seasons - which would get him back into free agency entering his age 30 season with 10 years of service, making him eligible for the 35% max, so there is a bet on himself element of his deal.
For Cleveland, this is a home run. He has more trade value now than he did an hour ago, and you have time to build around him.

I agree with those saying Cleveland should retool.
But they just got 2 extra years out of a superstar in his prime. This is great.
The player option is nice for Spida. Either way he’ll probably get another max, but much more likely at 31 than 32 I would guess.

Resigning Okoro, and a healthy Dean Wade, would be a good start there. They also just drafted a wing, who looks like he could be a LeVert replacement in a year or two. If a deal presents itself, I'm interested, but I am not going to plug one hole just to create another.

Don't have to create another hole. Niang/Jerome gives you some matching salary with touching any of the guys you'd prefer to see play. Add in LeVert and you can really increase your options.

I'm not opposed at all to running it back and see what they can do with health and a real coach, but I think the time to move Allen is now. His value should be sky high given his contract. I think also Mobley at the 5 is what is going to unlock this team. They just need to sign some rim running backup

Who are they realistically targeting that would be an upgrade? If they could move LeVert and Niang for Jerami Grant, I'd be interested. I don't think I'm comfortable making a similar deal for Wiggins without knowing which version of him you are getting back.

This post is disingenuous. Cleveland only finished 4th in the East due to the strong performance they had when Mobley and Garland were out of the lineup. One could argue this period coincided with the weakest part of their schedule, but the truth is Cleveland performed fairly average when their starting lineup was fully healthy.
It seems Cleveland will indeed run it back. I personally believe it's a mistake. If Atkinson truly believes playing two big men is the best strategy, I question his suitability for the job. It is frustrating to see my team persist with two traditional bigs for four consecutive years. It's disappointing that this will be the fourth year of Mobley's career wasted as a stretch 4. By the end of this year, he should have two years of starting 5 experience under his belt.
I am confident that this will be it. Either this "core four" sinks or swims. No more excuses. Either we make a run or we shake things up.
