Assuming they resign Fontechio, the have excellent wing rotation, but the team is still small and lacks playmaking outside of Cade, seems like they're building on Ivey, but they can use a 7 footer and Tyus Jones.

Mostly agree that Pistons need a vet big and another point guard. How much should a team spend on Tyus Jones? He had a nice season last year but for a very bad team and hasn't done a ton in this career to warrant a big contract or anything.

Trade has to be incoming. Ivey+Stewart+2nd rounders for who?

I thought he was very good in Memphis, best backup PG in the league.
Beasly's contract will likely be taken from the room exception, so Pistons still have ~35 million in cap space, I'd give him 50/3 with small partial guarantee on 3rd year.

I dont know tbh. I would feel a bit worried about thj and beasley. Sure they vets and should be able to teach young guys the ropes, but they are also vets on expirings that will need to get stats to get offers next summer so developing youth and playing teamball is not their priority, specially with their playstyle. But sure, they will open the floor for cade and ivey. And im pretty sure beasley is gone before tradedeadline

I'm cool with THJ and Beasley being gone before the trade deadline if it means we got future assets for them.

I’d try to go Bruce Brown style with Tyus - 2 for $50 with the 2nd year being a team option.

I think Detroit is trying to thread the needle between helping the team on the court and staying flexible long term.

Real issue is the backcourt is crowded and the young guys need defined roles if your trying to develop them.

The depth is excellent not the quality...

Defense will be terrible next year but they’ve made some efforts to improve our horrendous spacing.

Agree. Fine as a trade-able expiring contract, otherwise meh: after watching Beasley a few times on MIL last year, the last thing I thought was wanting him on the Pistons.

We have a roster with some players who can defend, some who can help attack, and some who can't really do either. I think we have one (!) 2-way player on the entire roster (Beef Stew), and his best role is off the bench. I'd say we are guaranteed a top 5 pick, but being pessimistic I see that WAS, BKN and POR don't look much better. so we could fall to 7th-8th in the 2025 draft if the bad luck and lottery balls bite us again.

I’ve been honestly hoping we sign Tyus just to help with the turnovers and such. Give him a two year contract with the second being an option year, prefer a team option but honestly don’t care either way.

Then just add a guy like Bismack for the frontcourt.

For Detroit - it’s all about putting these young players in position to develop. So a veteran point guard and floor spacers makes a ton of sense. Worry about the defense later.

It’s hard to see the 4 man combo of Cade, Ivey, Thompson and Holland sticking together long term - especially if Duran is on the court. So figure out who the 2 keeps are and maximize trade value on the other 2.

Tobias and Tyus on short term deals would be an excellent offseason for Detroit’s development

Nope, not redundant. The Pistons were a war crime last year from three. If THJ is off, plug-in Weasley.

This Pistons team, can never have enough shooting.

Feels good to have a bevy of players who can shoot the damn rock now. I fully expect Cades apg to get up around 9+ this season now.

Beasley is not a terrible defender, he is close to average. Beasley is better than Fontecchio and better than Burks fwIw. He shouldn't be your best defensive guard like he was supposed to be in Milwaukee and LAL, but he is not the issue, Cade/Ivey/THJr and trading Grimes away are the issues, but starting Beasley and Tobias, would make it less painful to start Ausar with Cade and either Stewart or Duren.

Didn't he shoot 50% from 3 or something amazing?

KAT would've make a lot of sense in DET, but more would be needed. Too bad they already signed Tobias for that role.

Maybe to the Dubs for Wiggins and Podz?

Another "real" NBA player replacing g-leaguers on the roster. Things are going in the right direction.
