Collins/Clarkson for LaVine/Phillips/2029 1st

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Sun Jul 7, 2024 2:52 pm

I’ll offer this idea for:
-Utah to add a starting SG to pair with Sexton while Ainge continues to leverage flexibility for 1st round picks
-The Bulls move on from LaVine by creating greater 2026 off-season flexibility in getting back a rotational guard and a 4 who is capable of starting

To Utah
-Zach LaVine (2 years, $89 million plus P.O.)
-Julian Phillips (2 years, $4.1 million plus T.O.)
-2029 Chicago 1st round pick

To Chicago
-John Collins (1 year, $26.6 million plus P.O.)
-Jordan Clarkson (2 years, $28.3 million)

Why?
-The Bulls move on from LaVine by adding a veteran guard who can backup at the 2 and Collins who can start at the 4

White/Carter/Ball
Dosunmu/Clarkson/Duarte
Giddey/Terry/Craig
Collins/Williams/Buzelis
Vucevic/Smith/FA?

-The Jazz add a starting 2 guard and a prospect along with a 1st given further money the take on.the Jazz could use exemption money to still add a wing like Saddiq Bey or sign a veteran to a 1 year deal like Cedi Osman.

Sexton/Collier/FA?
LaVine/Williams/George
Sensaubaugh/FA?/Phillips
Markannen/Hendricks/Bazley?/Lofton?
Kessler/Eubanks

CHI are rebuilding, they aren't going to pay a 1st to cut Lavine deal a year shorter.

I have both Collins and Clarkson as having negative value. I don't think an unprotected first is in any way warranted.

Assuming Lauri isn’t traded - this deal has always made some sense with no value added really. I think before the draft, people suggested Utah adding 29th or 32nd to balance it.

Nothing has changed to flip that needing a high variance first.

Yes the Bulls could start Collins at the 4, they might have a way to play Clarkson some. But just plain foolish for them to have bought a 2nd round pick to draft Phillips, keep him in the G League, get a look at a very confident athletic young player they are now trying to add only to trade him for short term veterans. You missed.

And. No they wouldn't be starting Dosunmu over the just resigned for $90M Patrick Williams and Giddey everybody understands is their PG not a point SF. Nor is Daen Terry going to play over Torrey Craig.

The deal could come close if they are Putting Jevon Carter in with Vuc to clear a small, shooting defensive PG who didn't get in enough games last year and doesn't figure to see very much action now. and in either case they aren't going to be trading draft picks this decade or they'll quickly have a new VP and GM

I don't think I'd do this even with Chicago kicking in the pick. It's a recipe to lose our pick to OKC while still missing the play-in.

I think Collins and Sexton for Lavine makes sense.

I dont think LaVine is better than Sexton, and if he is, not 23 million dollars a year better. I've gone through the rational before, so here it is again:

babyjax13 wrote:Last year he was better than LaVine, and his advance metrics from last year are eerily similar to LaVine's two years ago (same 1.9BPM, same 60.7% TS, Sexton's Darko +/- of +0.7 is almost the exact same as LaVine's +0.8 from two years ago, +.99 LEBRON very similar to LaVine's +.82 from two years ago and +.68 from three years ago).

Sexton is younger and making noticeable improvements, he is a better player than LaVine unless LaVine suddenly reverts back to what he was several years ago and Sexton quits improving. He is not a better player than LaVine was 3 years ago, but neither is LaVine.
