Jeremi Grant to Miami

Trade idea taken from this Heat based article:
https://heavy.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/jerami-grant-trade-rumors-2/Terry Rozier
Kel’El Ware
For
Jeremi Grant
Heat: As the article details, this is about the Heat making a continued competitive push. I suspect the Heat would seek a follow up trade to replace some of Rozier’s guard production.
Blazers: Turn Grant into some financial savings and get another rookie center that they worked out. Rozier becomes another vet mentor to Scoot until we can flip him (the sooner the better, but may be difficult until he next summer when he only has 1 year left on his contract). An additional center likely means Blazers push harder to move on from either Ayton or RWIII.
Note: I didn’t run this through a trade machine. I just took it as the article presented it. Not sure if additional salary filler is needed.

I expect Heat fans to prefer Terry for the present and Ware for the future. Not sure either has a place in Portland. Something different though!

I have thought for a while Miami is a good destination for Grant.
Are Portland just trying to collect centers?
Ware was my #1 favorite guy in this draft where the Kings picked so I am a fan.

I want Blazers to collect future assets and tank. Ware wouldn’t be my top choice of asset but he is acceptable. I’d accept a future 1st instead personally, though I assume his salary helps complete this trade.

Miami will not trade Ware and Herro for Grant. Not that I'm so high on Ware, but the difference between Herro and Grant is not worth Ware or even a FRP.
Portland should dump Grant's 4 yrs $132m contract to another team if they ask for Ware.

Yes it is.
No one wants Herro.

I prefer a Herro/Grant swap to a Rozier/Grant swap for both teams. Portland gets the younger player, Miami keeps the slightly better and cheaper player. Timelines line up pretty good. I wonder if Time Lord could get worked in here somehow as he really has no place on the Blazers between Clingan and Ayton

I think the Blazers are largely just posturing about wanting 2 picks for Grant, I think we will settle with one and the least offensive filler.
But if we have to eat Herro then I would also want 2 picks in that swap.

That's funny. I'd want two firsts to eat Grant. None of these deals appeal to me.

That wasn’t the original proposal, though that somehow became the debate after your post.

Okay, in fairness, I hate the original trade far more than the one with Herro. We have one freaking point guard on the team - one! And we trade him, along with our new center, for a guy who can take Jovic's spot? Backup Jimmy and Jaime? He averages fewer rebounds than Herro and he's going to be our power forward? We went out of our way to bring in and develop size so we could body up with the Boston's and Minnesota's and we're going to set that back for a guy who doesn't rebound while trading away our only viable option at point guard?
Nope.

The original trade from the article makes zero sense for the Blazers. Also really hard to see these GMs dealing with each other after last summer.

Agreed, I think more teams want Grant than Herro, but both of them cant stay on the court.

I mean, I like it. Grant makes little sense for the Blazers future. This gets an asset and off some money, so I don’t see how it makes zero sense, though I understand you would prefer to do something else.
You may be right about the GMs not wanting to play ball with each other, but hopefully they put that aside if there is a deal that they both like. They don’t have a long standing rivalry, just a very situational thing that hopefully they also see as situational.

It makes zero sense for Miami, if that helps. We've been trying to find a real big to put next to Bam for forever. We just drafted this kid and we're going to deal him for a 6'8" small forward who can play power forward but can't rebound? And we get to give up our only point guard? While further mucking up our cap sheet? Yuck!

I didn't know about Cronin but Riley is known to hold grudges over this sort of thing. I wouldn't expect any deals any time soon.

Oh no will the Herro to POR dream never materialize?

I'd trade Okoro and Lavert for Grant ideally if possible would like to include Niang and Thuybulle

This literally doesn't involve Herro but way to be salty. This deal has us trading Terry Rozier and Kel'el Ware for Jerami Grant. Keep up!

I kinda like Grant for Cleveland, but I don't think Okoro (similar limitations to Thybulle) is a fit for Portland. LaVert may actually be somewhat useful in the near-term as a secondary creator who can play next to Scoot or Simons, but I'd rather just keep Grant tbh.
