Can OKC make a godfather offer for Giannis?

Let’s say we are in Jan ‘25: OKC is top 3 in the west, and MIL is looking like a playoff team that may not get home court in the East.
Given that Milwaukee is cap trapped without many avenues to improve, OKC can call them up and put a Godfather offer on the table:
Lu Dort + Jalen Williams + Isaiah Joe + Aaron Wiggins
…plus…
2025 1st from Houston or L.A. Clippers
2025 1st from Miami (non lotto)
2025 1st from Utah (top 10 prot, likely conveys in ‘26)
2027 1st from Denver
2026 2nd from Dallas or Philadelphia
2026 2nd from Golden State
That would mean a depth chart of:
SGA / Caruso / Giannis / Chet / Hartenstein
Wallace / Topic / Wiggins / KenWill / JWill
^ Ignore the positions… You could play around with that starting lineup, like Giannis to the 4 and Hartenstein to the bench..but the main premise remains.
OKC could also play around with the trade permutations, since they have so many other picks and salaries to play with.

Their godfather offer will be next year with IHart for matching and picks.
They are contenders now, and their weakest spot is at the 4, they will shower Bucks with picks, no reason to kill their depth.

I think in January you can offer Hartenstein, Caruso, and Jalen with however many picks and make a legal trade..

Yeah I can definitely see this. And an IHart centered trade around this trade deadline legally works.
That would make them even more dangerous - and potentially a dynastic team (atleast for the next 3 seasons)

Yeah. A lineup with Giannis at SF is just silly.
It will be Hartenstein + Topic + Dort and picks. OKC will have the greatest superteam of all time with:
PG SGA
SG Caruso
SF JDub
PF Chet
C Giannis
Unreal.
2 guys with MVP potential (Giannis and SGA)
4 guys with All-Star potential (Giannis, SGA, JDub, Chet)
4 guys with All-Defense potential (Giannis, SGA, Caruso, Chet)

Giannis is Milwaukee basketball. So I don’t see a trade that makes sense. It’s one of those situations we just can’t trade him

"Hartenstein and picks" would be a comically unserious offer no matter how many mediocre 1st round picks OKC throws in there. And that's the problem with this theoretical "war chest" idea. OKC's own picks for the next 5-7 years would be entirely worthless given the age of that core plus Giannis, and all these 1st's they own from other teams are protected outside of the 2028 Dallas pick (Luka will still only be 29), and a 2025 Clippers pick swap. Cuz yeah, I'm sure OKC would love to add a Top-3 player in the world while leaving literally all of their Top 6-7 player assets intact, while sending zero draft assets that have any possibility of being even Top-5 picks...

I think they 'could' but that proposed offer probably isn't 'godfathery' enough.

The question isn't can they, but should they?

OKC has a lot of picks but they do not have any good picks.
I'm sure if Giannis becomes available, a team with a few unprotected picks can beat the OKC 'loads of bad picks' offer.

Isn’t that Utah pick in its last year? Also you have Wiggins in the trade and also the rotation.

yea a deal's not getting down with Chet or Jdub. People overrate picks, especially coming from a team like the thunder.

Jalen Williams plus a buncha picks is a great offer for nearly any target. I just don't believe Giannis can be had.

Milwaukee say no.
Don Corleone could make an offer people couldn't refuse because they knew he'd kill them or destroy their careers. The best Presti can do is dangle some picks.

Yeah if the Utah pick doesn't convey this year its obligation is considered finished.

Two more chances. It is top 10 protected for the 2025 draft and top 8 protected for 2026.
